Inhabitants
editDo these islands have people living on them? XYaAsehShalomX 21:53, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
- That depends on what you mean by inhabitants. There are scientists there. But, conventionally, islands whose only occupants are the staff of a scientific or military base are considered uninhabited. I think that the Falklands and Tristan da Cunha may be the only two isolated far southern Islands to be inhabited. -- Geo Swan 23:05, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Ah, OK! Thanks. I assumed there wasn't anyone living there, it's just that it didn't say so in the article. :) XYaAsehShalomX 23:47, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Hi, today I deleteded a line of text from Provinces of South Africa. No mention of these islands is made in regular discussion of SA provices, but it makes one think.. Regards Gregorydavid 23:19, 6 March 2006 (UTC) PS are the Islands a province of SA?
- They are not a province in their own right, but instead are a constituent part of the Eastern Cape Province.
- Actually, I think you'll find that as far as they are part of any province, that province is the Western Cape: the government website here says:
- "South African law as applied in the Western Cape is in force on Prince Edward and Marion Islands which, for the purpose of the administration of justice, are deemed to be part of the Cape Town magisterial district.".
- The Prince Edward Islands Act, section 1.(2) states:
- "For the purposes of the administration of justice, and in general for the application of the laws of the Union, the Territory shall be deemed to be situated within the Magisterial district which includes the City of Cape Town and to form part of the electoral division which includes the harbour of the City of Cape Town."
- I've searched through the post-1994 legislation for the term "Prince Edward Islands", and I can't find anything that suggests that they are considered part of the Eastern Cape. - htonl 03:18, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Vela
editThe account of the 1979 Vela incident reads - to me - as suggesting that there was most probably a nuclear explosion. This is somewhat misleading, as there was no evidence of an explosion other than a blip in the Vela's data, which could easily have been a malfunction. There was no evidence of radiation, disturbance to the atmosphere, or seismic record. I suggest that the sentence to re-written to reflect the weight of evidence.203.184.41.226 (talk) 20:18, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
