... that Precious Plastic (logo pictured) is an open hardware plastic recycling project by Dave Hakkens, who also created Phonebloks, an open-source modular smartphone concept similar to Google's Project Ara?Source: "the Precious Plastic project wants to put the power of recycling into the hands of the users themselves with a collection of open-source tools for reusing waste." "Launched by Dave Hakkens in 2013 as his graduate thesis for the Design Academy in the Netherlands, Precious Plastic has seen Hakkens and his team build a series of open-source machines for locally recycling plastic waste." "Hakkens also has a forum dedicated to his Phonebloks project, a concept for a modular smartphone that has since been somewhat incorporated into Google’s larger Project Ara initiative." [1]
- Comment: Old draft was undeleted, greatly expanded, and moved to article on 1-6-2020.
Created by Yae4 (talk) and Iambubbles (talk). Nominated by Yae4 (talk) at 05:37, 7 January 2020 (UTC).
- Article is new and long enough. Nominator is QPQ exempt. Hook is cited and short enough for DYK. No concerning pings on Earwigs. The introductory paragraph currently reads like marketing copy, and needs to be written in a more neutral tone of voice (e.g. it should be defined as a "open hardware plastic recycling project" as it is in the hook, not a "global community") before it is promoted for DYK. Morgan695 (talk) 04:00, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- User:Morgan695, Article wording has been updated as suggested. Notes: Logo has also been updated, and Dave Hakkens page has infobox added. Question: Should Dave Hakkens in hook be bolded, as this is also a new page? -- Yae4 (talk) 13:19, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- User:Yae4 The intro graf was still in marketing speak, but I decided to just be BOLD and do it myself. Dave Hakkens currently only contains 844B of readable prose; it would need at least 1500B to qualify for DYK. Morgan695 (talk) 15:49, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Morgan695:, Thanks for the edit. One problem: Deleting the phrase ", with the idea that anyone, anywhere in the world, can set up their own miniature recycling company" essentially removes the content taken from the Plastic Soup book source. So it should be included somewhere, maybe in quotes? -- Yae4 (talk) 16:08, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- That's fine. Morgan695 (talk) 16:11, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Morgan695:, OK, it should be good to go now. -- Yae4 (talk) 16:40, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Yae4: Okay, Precious Plastic looks good to go. If you wished to expand Dave Hakkens I can hold this nomination, otherwise I can just pass this now. Morgan695 (talk) 16:56, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Morgan695:, I'll see what I can do about expanding Dave Hakkens, Thanks. -- Yae4 (talk) 19:42, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Morgan695:, Expanded. -- Yae4 (talk) 21:27, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Yae4: Article is long enough, but Earwigs detected close paraphrasing on "Hakkens developed a series of ceramic jugs that take advantage of the characteristics of shrinking porcelain. He conceived a master mold with a variety of textures and materials through slip-casting. Due to a 14% incremental kiln shrinkage rate, each form is used as a template for processing the jugs into smaller and smaller versions. Eventually the first 5 liter mold is transformed into a collection of 10 progressively smaller jugs, with the smallest being 10 milliliters." Once that is rephrased, this can be passed. Morgan695 (talk) 21:45, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- Also, I see that the organization's "information, code, drawing and source material" is licensed under CC 4.0, but are we certain that their coporate logo is similarly licensed as well? Morgan695 (talk) 02:42, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Morgan695:, The section has been rephrased. On the logo, it is "information," and a "drawing" or sketch. Also notice on the bottom of the web pages they say, "All Precious Plastic content is shared under Creative Commons Attribution." The logo is part of All content. -- Yae4 (talk) 03:14, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, just making sure. This is good to go. Morgan695 (talk) 03:16, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, I came by several times to promote this, but the hook is very self-promotional. Putting it in the image slot would look like a downright advertisement. Would you like to suggest something in the spirit of a hook instead? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 16:51, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
- Would it be better with the picture of Hakkens from that article? Phonebloks and Project Ara are basically defunct now, so I don't see how the second part can be remotely promotion. For the first part I'm open to suggestions. Would it be better without mentioning open hardware? Otherwise, how much more bland can it be and still be interesting at all? -- Yae4 (talk) 18:04, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Yae4: I'd like to suggest that you familiarize yourself with the hooks on the Approved page to get a better idea of what hooks are about. As their name implies, they're designed to catch the reader's eye and reel him in to click on your article. The hook should highlight a funny, quirky, or unusual fact. It should not tell the whole story in one sentence, in which case there's no reason to click on your article. Here is a hook idea for your article:

This page should not be speedy deleted because...
editHello! I'm terribly sorry about making such a short page for Precious Plastic: I was intending on simply creating it right now, and then hopefully getting back to in a few hours to continue working on it. I mostly wanted to just get the ball rolling on it. Precious Plastic is a community and idea that is much bigger than the tiny stub of an article I made for it, but I thought I would start the page now, and get back to it later today. Sorry! If it gets deleted right now, that's alright, but I do plan on making a much longer article about it very soon.
- Hi Iambubbles - the page has not been deleted but I moved it to Draft:Precious Plastic so that you can work on it. When you think it's ready, you can submit your article using the instructions on the draft banner at the top of the page. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 17:35, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
- Shoot, sorry - I think I just moved it back by accident. Sorry! I'm really new, in case you can't tell, and I don't know what I'm doing yet. But I also made it a bit longer, and intend on making it longer still in the near future. Thank you so much for taking the time to look this over! Also, a quick google search should show that Precious Plastic is a bit bigger than either of the two version of the article I have written so far.
- Basically, I should have just put this into my sandbox and worked on it until it was ready for people to see, huh? And the same thing goes for the Dave Hakkens page I tried to make, right? Lesson learned - don't make articles that are still basically drafts. I'll repost these when I'm actually done with them, and not before.Iambubbles (talk) 17:46, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
- I copied the discussion above here, from the Talk page of the page in mainspace (Talk:Precious Plastic). I am going to nominate the page in mainspace for deletion, so that when this is ready the space is clear. Jytdog (talk) 17:52, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
- Alright, great! I'm actually so new to editing that I didn't realize I could make a draft of a page, otherwise I probably would have. Thank you so much! Sorry about the mess! Iambubbles (talk) 18:08, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
- @Jytdog and Dlohcierekim: all of that is fine by me, I only left the redirect so Iambubbles could find the draft. Obviously they know where it is now :) Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:28, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

- This removal[2] left extra blank lines, which I will remove. If I understand correctly, the main objection was Verification Fail, and I agree if so; however, the primary source does give a list of related information, so I will be adding a different, more neutral and verifiable summary.
