Pneumatosis → ? – Emphysema is the usual name searched for - 16 million hits Google; pneumatosis with far fewer hits - 230K always calls up intestinalis or coli; most searches are related to the lungs; most of page is relevant to the lungs; recent redirect of page to Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease does not even redirect to an appropriate section - also many items like bullous emphysema are not covered there; really do not think it is an aka for pneumatosis which was until recently just a Wiktionary entry. The first CDC ref quoted says "refers to a group of diseases.... includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis" - as diseases surely? Also importantly the page name if given as an aka for emphysema is not the common name.--Iztwoz (talk) 08:27, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose, in agreement with Doc James's logic. I imagine that people searching for the term "emphysema" are not looking for this article, but instead are looking for COPD. The COPD article has a redirect to pneumatosis at the top, which should be sufficient for readers interested in the subject. ―Biochemistry🙴 03:06, 23 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Main topic

edit

The main topic of emphysema is COPD, it is not pneumatosis. Thus the redirect from emphysema should go to COPD with a hatnote to pneumatosis which is what we have now.

We should probably do the same with chronic bronchitis. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:03, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Content split

edit

Emphysema content split to Emphysema page. Material on emphysema was increased and in need of its own page - emphysema covers much more than just that related to COPD - also it is just referred to on COPD page without either its own section or detail.--Iztwoz (talk) 09:48, 31 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
