File:Carduelis pinus CT7.jpg to appear as POTD soon edit

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Carduelis pinus CT7.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on February 26, 2012. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2012-02-26. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :) Thanks! howcheng {chat} 22:16, 25 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

The Pine Siskin (Carduelis pinus) is a finch native to northern North America. The plumage is drab, being brown on the upperparts and pale on the underparts, with heavy streaking throughout. They have yellow patches in their wings and tail, which are not always visible. They grow to 11–14 cm (4.3–5.5 in) in length and typically weigh 12–18 g (0.4–0.6 oz).Photo: Simon Pierre Barrette

siskin comparison section edit

Why exactly is there an extensive section detailing all of the morphological differences with the european siskin? This is not a practical identification issue anybody will have (due to their entirely non-overlapping ranges) and it seems rather arbitrary to have a detailed comparison between these two species but no mention of comparison with any other siskins... Map legend? edit

It seems to me the distribution map needs a legend. What does each color indicate?
