re: previous bridge

I'm not sure there was a previous bridge that was replaced by the current bridge. That previous bridge may be referring to the previous structure on the site of the Tomlinson Bridge (US 1 over the Quinnipiac River) that was recently reconstructed. --Polaron | Talk 17:41, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

The US 1 bridge and the I-95 bridge are adjacent. What route was the old bridge carrying? I would say that if it was US 1 rather than I-95, it is better to include this information in the Tomlinson Bridge article (once it exists). --Polaron | Talk 23:51, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I'm quite familiar with the area, thanks, as it's effectively local and I've been in the area, more or less, my whole life. I don't know what was going over that bridge before I-95 was built. And when I go there to take pictures of the big bridge, I will take pictures of the "small" lift bridge. I've long thought it looks nice. I currently plan to use the lift bridge as a starting location to sight the big girder/stringer (I think) bridge, but that's only a starting location. The Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge opened in 1958 with the completion of the Connecticut Turnpike (I-95). The Tomlinson Lift Bridge carries US-1. The present-day Tomlinson Bridge replaced a two-leaf bascule bridge originally built for US-1 in 1917. Not sure if there was anything before the 1917 Tomlinson Bridge. Wxstorm (talk)

Recommend split

I recommend splitting this article into an article for the old bridge, and one for the new bridge. I've done similar for Berkley–Dighton Bridge, where the previous bridge is Berkley–Dighton Bridge (1896).
