numbers

Does any one knows the exact number of pamiris, especially in tajikistan? 900000 is way too much. --Babakexorramdin (talk) 22:40, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pashto and Persian

edit

Why should we add Pashto or Persian when Pamiri has a written script and when Pamiri is a Pamiri term. I added Persian Tajik because since the name of the article is not Tajik language but Persian Tajik.--Inuit18 (talk) 06:23, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I added Persian and Tajik because Pamiris are culturally closer to Tajiks than to any other ethnic group.--Inuit18 (talk) 06:24, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Anti-Russian sentiment among Sarikoli (Tajiks of Xinjiang) in 1900

edit

In response to increased Tsarist Russian activity in Sarikol around 1900, the local Sarikoli begs and Sarikoli people feared that Russia was going to annex the region and take it away from China, fearing molestation at the hands of the Russians, they wanted to flee to Yarkand. They did not believe the official explanation that Russia was only concerned with the postal service in the area.

Localities

edit

Saladin1987 added this statement about Gojal and I subsequently removed it because it was not sourced. On my talk page, Saladin1987 then provided this and this in support of their edit.

The first of those links is the Gojal Educational and Cultural Association. As a general rule, we should avoid caste/tribal-affiliated websites, as this one certainly is, because they are only reliable for statements about themselves, not the people whom they claim to represent. Even how they define a region, such as Pamir, is often subjective.

The second link is a report of the activities of the aforementioned Association and, perhaps not surprisingly, seems to use stuff from the Association's website without even acknowledging the source. The strapline is "Pamir Times - Voices of Mountain Communities.". I've no idea whether it is reliable or not but I think it would be far more useful if you found an less populist source, such as something from academia. - Sitush (talk) 05:39, 16 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

How useful would this be? - Sitush (talk) 06:14, 16 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

yes sitush by looking at your link, it clearly indicates their location in Pakistan in gojal so it should be mentioned along with xinjiang province of china in the start up line i thinkSaladin1987 22:03, 16 July 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Saladin1987 (talkcontribs)

That wasn't my question. And even if acceptable as a source, it is not quite a straightforward as you suggest because the Gojal thing is almost as an enclave. I'd be surprised if there weren't some Pamiri people in, say, London but we wouldn't mention it in the manner that you propose. At best, there is a significant cluster in Gojal, just as there is a significant cluster of Jewish people in Manchester. - Sitush (talk) 06:15, 17 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

no jewish people living in america are not living in their home.. But pamiri people i.e Wakhi people live in Gujal and they are called gojalis, even badakshan in history was called gojal. also the ammount of pamiris living in pakistan are more than that of Afghanistan.. so i think gojal is to be included. over here i am not trying to put some foreign nationality of ethnic group in pakistan, gojalis are part of pakistani ethnic groups as mentioned here Wakhi people. We need to include gojal and xinjiang. I would appreicate if you could enter these too as you know what i am saying is facts like pakistan is an independant country . i am not asking you to put a tajik town in PAkistan rather i am asking to put pakistani ethnic group i.e Wakhi in pamiri people page through their location — Preceding unsigned comment added by Saladin1987 (talkcontribs) 13:23, 18 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have added ethnic groups in Pakistan category in the article. Hope you dont have any issue with that as its a fact and is also mentioned in the articleSaladin1987 13:26, 18 July 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Saladin1987 (talkcontribs)

I might have an issue with it. That's why if you are in doubt - as clearly you are - then you should discuss first. I'm not going to pander to Pakistani POV pushing or, indeed, any other sort. I asked a question and neither you nor anyone else has yet responded. There was a reason for asking it: the author's credentials are not the greatest I've ever seen. What you have done is produced a lot of claims about population etc that are not sourced and also a contradictory argument relating to homelands and ethnic groups. - Sitush (talk) 16:35, 18 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hunza and Kalash are the Pamir people

edit

People of Hunza and Kalash are the Pamir people, as well as the Pamirs, living in Xinjiang District of China. All of them, as well as the Pamirs, living in Tajik and Afgan Badakhshan profess the same religion - Ismailism! Finally, compare the numerous pictures of people of Hunza, Kalash, Xinjiang and Badakhshan's Pamirs, is the same person that speaks of the same people! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.9.137.125 (talk) 20:55, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Pamiri peoplePamiris – "Pamiris" is, by far, the WP:COMMONNAME to be used for these people per Ngram. "Pamiris" is an unambiguous and plural demonym. Per WP:ETHNICGROUP#Ethnic groups. And it is more WP:CONCISE than "Pamiri people". Per Koreans, Tajiks, Pashtuns, Germans, Swedes, Russians, Serbians, and many other titles of similar articles. "Pamiris" is the optimal title for this article. Khestwol (talk) 06:56, 5 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
