The citations in this article are essentially useless. I've tried to figure what sources the creator of this article used.

Ryan J. Wheeler is the author of Treasure of the Calusa, which might be relevant. I don't have access to this book, and probably will have to try to get it through an inter-library loan. He also authored an article in the issue of The Florida Anthropologist listed below.
Robert S. Carr co-authored an article in the issue of The Florida Anthropologist listed below.
Richard Thornton claims to have discovered Mayan influence in tribes in northern Georgia. He appears to be a propounder of a fringe theory, and I haven't found any work of his that relates to Ortona.
George R. Milner is an ~~anthropologist~~ archaeologist who specializes in Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Kentucky. I have not found any work of his that relates to Ortona.
