MOS:HYPHEN (capitalize after a hyphen only if what follows the hyphen is a proper name in its own right, as in "anti-Castro"). Also WP:CONSISTENCY, with Belgian Half-blood, Indian Half-bred, Indian Country-bred, Bone-mouth, Istrian Coarse-haired Hound, Vietnamese Pot-bellied, Berlin Long-faced Tumbler, Budapest Short-faced Tumbler, Königsberg Colour-head Tumbler, Ural Striped-maned pigeon, Asian Semi-longhair, Pixie-bob (refers to bobbed tail, not someone named Bob), Dala-fur sheep, Fat-tailed sheep, Gansu Alpine Fine-wool, Île-de-France sheep, Lithuanian Black-headed, Small-tail Han, and other hyphenated-term breeds. Googling around for North American Single-footing Horse, etc. by long and shorter names shows every conceivable rendering ("Single Footing", "singlefoot", "Single-footer", and so forth; likewise with the dogs - "Curlycoated" "Cury Coated", etc.). The horse one in particular could possibly be reduced to a shorter name (is even "Single-footer" or "Single-footing Horse" ambiguous?), but I think the horse breeds articles tend to go with longer ones if they're what the breed organizations prefer. Most breeds (aside from popular dog and cat varieties) are obscure enough to the general public that WP:COMMONNAME doesn't really apply or is at least dubious to firmly establish (and doesn't apply to punctuation questions anyway; that's an MOS matter). — AReaderOutThatawayt/c 00:47, 7 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
