Proposal to merge Team Calzaghe into Newbridge Boxing Club
editWhile editing both articles, I noticed how much cross-over content there is. Notability is mainly provided by the name of boxing champion Joe Calzaghe who has just retired undefeated. However, there are several other champs involved, making a continuing article on the Club worthwhile. My own hunch is that the Calzaghe name will gradually become less important as the years pass, while the neutrally named Newbridge Boxing Club will carry on. Anyway, I would argue that we should merge the two articles one way or the other. They're really both owned by, and both about, the same small group of people--I'm not too fussy about which article takes up the content. Cheers Bjenks (talk) 06:01, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- I would agree but disagree. I would merge this article into Team Calzaghe as its the team that is more notable.--Vintagekits (talk) 07:49, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I would not merge the two articles as the Newbridge boxing club is the institution itself whereas Team Calzaghe very much depends upon whether Enzo and Joe are there to run it. As soon as Enzo retires there will be no Team Calzaghe but the Newbridge boxing club will still be there and will play host to another set of up and coming boxers. Team Calzaghe represents a point in time whereby that particular group of boxers got together under that particular coach and achieved the amazing things they did. If Team Calzaghe was to be merged with anything then I would suggest merging it with the article on Enzo Calzaghe. Notjamesbond (talk) 10:43, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- OK, there being no sign of any consensus, I'll withdraw from this. Cheers Bjenks (talk) 05:48, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
