I don't see how they can have all this positive stuff on here about here and skip all the negative, the lady has killed the athletic department and nuetered the BBall program that was continuing to rise under a future hall of fame coach! Don Cincinnati

Continuing to rise? The BBall program had stagnated and was overrated under Huggins. They played a soft schedule in a second rate conference (CUSA). She simply put integrity and academics ahead of winning games. Besides, she hasn't killed the athletic department. The football program has never been better. Dave, Cincinnati

Yet, she is still here and just received a raise as "a reward and a recognition for oustanding performance" (Buck Niehoff, Board of Trustees Vice Chairman, quoted in the Cincinnati Enquirer, September 26, 2007). So, I guess you're way off on that one. Besides, do you think she fired Huggins without first consulting the Board of Trustees (who decide when and if she gets fired)? Dave, Cincinnati

The positive content is more than appropriate. The mission of the President is to protect the integrity of the University, which she has done very well. The fact that UC is winning fewer basketball games is not important in the grand scheme. Bob Huggins' firing was consistent with goal of restoring the integrity of the University of Cincinnati. His offenses went well beyond a DUI conviction. He was cited by the NCAA for lack of institutional control. Many of his players were well below the academic enrollment standards and the basketball program had a particularly poor graduation rate. While many of his players were young men of outstanding character, others compiled criminal records. The integrity of the University as an academic institution is far more important than its winning percentage. Ultimately, there are 2 camps: 1) Bearcat fans who just want to win basketball games at any cost. Many of these fans simply live in Cincinnati and are not affiliated with UC. 2) Alumni and professors (I am both) who certainly don't mind winning but only if the University retains its academic integrity, honor and credibility in the process. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.137.24.112 (talk) 22:30, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

The President has other goals too besides "integrity" such as budget management, in-which she has failed at on so many occasions. Not being a person that believes that opinion should be represented on wiki only fact. The "Fact" of the matter is the general student population has a rather low opinion of her and the duties she supposedly has preformed on our behalf. With lavish expenditures to the campus sprawl, to the idea of making UC and its' student body "globally" dry, to state of the university address given earlier this year on subjective plans to annex parts of Burnet Woods, to effectively "Clean it up and lower the impact it has on local crime." The woods is closer to the gas light district >.>. One has to ask if she really has a brain in that gaudily dressed head of hers. Do i need to even mention the building of UP Apartments, and the dismantling of local business on Calhoun Street, for what? A grass field because the development went so far over budget that they couldn't afford to finish the project >.>. Or the fact that the storefronts under UP remain vacant, or report low earnings. Or how about the demolition of one of the 3 sisters even though UC was reporting record enrollment. Yes it was an out of date building in need of renovation but seriously WTF. There is a reason why UC has one of the highest tuitions of any public universities and it isn't because of the education provided. No, the "fact" is that the "UC stands for Under Construction" joke has been around at least since I was a student at UC in 1986, likely before you were even born (from your discussion above, I assume that you're a current undergrad, forgive me if I'm incorrect). So what does it have to do with Nancy Zimpher? Most of the renovations and changes to the campus were approved long before Zimpher arrived (e.g., work on the new CARE building on the East Campus began in 1994, ante-Zimpher, yet it was only just dedicated earlier this year) so, again, what does this have to do with her? To understand whether UC has improved or declined under Zimpher's leadership, one must compare the current status of UC with the status of the institution before she arrived, taking into consideration processes that were already underway before she arrived (i.e. most of the rebuilding and new investments). It's doubtful that you were here 20 or even 10 years ago. If you were, you would know that, despite any problems or incompleted projects, not only has the academic picture improved at UC but also its ambience as a college campus. Moreover, having been here at UC for most of the last 23 years, I can say that crime in adjacent neighborhoods directed at UC students and staff is spinning ridiculously out of control. This has a substantial financial and academic impact b/c if things continue at this rate, good students and professors will be afraid to come here (cf. Wayne State Univ in Detroit). Something surely must be done. Burnet Woods isn't any closer to the gaslight than to UC, in fact, it's right across the street from UC so give me a break. If annexing Burnet Woods or any of the adjoining neighborhoods is seen as a way of stemming the increasing incidence of violent crime then so be it. I'm sure this idea was launched in consultation with the UC public safety dept, which is very good at what it does. As far as UC having one of the highest tuition rates of all public institutions (an exaggeration), UC is nevertheless setting records for enrollment with virtually no slots left unfilled. So based on the supply and demand model, it seems the tuition rates are just right or can even be increased. As far as stores reporting low earnings go, all stores these days are reporting low earnings. Is the bad economy her fault too? So, the only "fact" you listed that resonates at all with someone who has been familar with UC for more that 5 years is the current budget deficit. However, most Universities are reporting budget deficits nationally; she didn't establish the current rebuilding plan, President Steger did; and with time, the deficit,and debt, will be vacated. The vandalism of this article was the subject of a story in The Plain Dealer on March 25, 2006. See University president's bio smeared online. - EurekaLott 15:37, 25 March 2006 (UTC) Not the right president for a school with a sucessful basketball program. The critcism of basketball player poor academics has been disproved. Has that been "disproved?" Bob Huggins is a piece of garbage - UC hasn't lost anything. I live 15 min from where Huggins was arrested for DUI (Fairfax, OH). He could have killed someone. I'm glad he's not in Cincinnati. We're all safer with that drunken garbage gone.

WP:UNDUE emphasis on Cincinnati career

Really, is that so? Please cite your source that most, i.e. over 50% of alumni are glad she's gone. I'm both faculty and alumni, and I know many that believe Zimpher did a great job and are happy Huggin's gone.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.83.42.233 (talk • contribs)
