laser vs mechanical inertial guidance edit

The section on inertial guidance says that ring laser gyros like those used in private aircraft are less accurate than the mechanical systems in ICBMs. It's not clear to me from reading this whether this is specifically talking about Big Deal (TM) military-grade mechanical gyros vs cheap off-the-shelf laser hardware, or if it's comparing the two in general and just giving examples. The source is a book I don't have on hand. I feel like either way it would be clearer with an adjective or two. Anyone agree? 204.194.77.3 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:55, 9 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

main reference edit

I have inserted a well-known reference about missile guidance. This is Zarchan's book. Maybe some mathematical parts should be introduced being this standard material. --Pra1998 (talk) 08:03, 8 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

No history? edit

I'm rather curious of the history of guided missiles but this page lacks a history section. Shouldn't it have one? 78.147.107.88 (talk) 18:30, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

difference between preset and inertial guidance edit

can someone explain the difference between preset and inertial guidance?--Arado (talk) 12:20, 12 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

A torpedo can be preset to travel in a certain direction, or even travel for a certain period and then turn, but if it takes inertial guidance to compensate for unanticipated water currents that could otherwise drag it off target. Hcobb (talk) 01:35, 2 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
