1902 invention?

Probably like most technologies it was developed over time. The history might be interesting to go into. And it is an obvious quip, but we need a reliable source. I just ran across Time magazine attributing it to Mark Twain, but also might be "legend". W Nowicki (talk) 18:19, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Well one issue with that one is that it mentions "dictophone" which might be confusing the dictaphone (which used mechanical recording) with the "dictograph" (an electric intercom system). I see many sources seem to credit Hutchison as inventor of the dictograph, but earlier sources make it seem K. Monroe Turner would be more accurate. They seemed to colaborate, with Monroe running the dictograph business at least. W Nowicki (talk) 22:42, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
