Mikhail Nikolayevich Muravyov-Vilensky

edit

Shouldn't this article be moved to Mikhail Nikolayevich Muravyov (Governor)? Because someone looking at article title might think that his surname was Muravyov-Vilensky which is not true. Encyclopaedia Editing Dude 16:22, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Or Mikhail Nikolayevich Muravyov "The Hangman" [1] ? --Lysytalk 16:32, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think there is enough conflicts in Wiki already. Hangman in the title will stir too much emotions. As for current article: "In the long term, Muravyov's policy proved successful. There were no more Polish rebellions after his resignation". That doesn't sound neutral to me. Encyclopaedia Editing Dude 17:37, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
The Hangman is obviously not how he used to call himself, but it is how he was referred to. You are right, that this could generate further wiki-conflicts, though. As for NPOV, I believe "successful" presents Russian point of view (or rather speculation). I think both sentences that you quoted should go, as they do not bring anything new to the article, and the first one is an opinion, not a fact. --Lysytalk 18:01, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I believe the purely trollish proposal to move the article such that it would include "the Hangman" in the title should be ignored as per WP:DFTT#Not_feeding_the_trolls Wikipedia guideline. Such proposal could only be floated with an intention to provoke and inflame matters that is by definition Trolling, which refers to:

deliberate and intentional attempts to disrupt the usability of Wikipedia for its editors, administrators, developers, and other people who work to create content for and help run Wikipedia.

Irpen, I'm sorry but you are late with your accusations of trolling. If you read more carefully you'd understand that I've withdrawn from that proposal. Now, what is the purpose of the comment of yours ? --Lysytalk 19:50, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I did not see the withdrawal. All I saw is your admitting that such a rename "could generate further wiki-conflicts". There are many things that could generate that. The mere creation of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Warsaw or Tadeusz Hołówko articles "generated wikiconflicts". It was no reason not to create those articles. --Irpen 19:57, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Come on guys. Let's stick to the subject. Encyclopaedia Editing Dude 21:07, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

All right, what about the "successful" then ? --Lysytalk 21:13, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Maybe Vilensky should be written in ( ) or in "", as per other examples? M.K. 11:54, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why Vilensky and not simply Mikhail Nikolayevich Muravyov of Vilnius ? Use English. --Lysytalk 21:58, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Irpen's 'rv unreferenced POV'

edit

Irpen, I wonder, what exactly are you seeing as unreferenced POV changes? The article is basically unreferenced save only for the facts you seem to be trying to censor (i.e. Muraviev's policies that led to him gaining the nickname 'hangman'). If the current reference is not enough for you, have several more: [2], [3], [4], [5]. I don't plan to spend much time referencing the details of Muravievs reign of terror, but if you insist it needs to be done...-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  05:27, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
