Talk:Midge Decter

a blatant error (one missing word) survived for over 19 months edit

Maybe this is just a sign that, experts on the science (and the history) of Wikipedia should already know that some errors just don't get noticed very quickly -- or they get noticed "only" by readers who are not also editors, so they sometimes don't get corrected -- (perhaps until months or years later).

THIS edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Midge_Decter&diff=next&oldid=458212603 occurred about (17:09, 30 October 2011) -- only about 13 minutes after the previous edit, so maybe there wasn't a tremendous amount of thought (and proofreading) that went in to it.

It got rid of an OLD sentence that said "Her first job in publishing came as an editor at Basic Books", and introduced a NEW sentence that said (something similar) (fair enough -- except that it was missing a word!): "She then working in publishing as an editor at Basic Books and [...]".

The NEW sentence was missing the word "began". Now (as of this edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Midge_Decter&diff=559931984&oldid=558805476) (circa 14:19, 14 June 2013) it says "She then began working in publishing as an editor at Basic Books and [...]".

I would have included (most of) this information in the edit summary, but, (due to the way the wikimedia software [infrastructure] works -- I guess) there was not even close to enough space for it to fit there. So I used a "short" edit summary (is there any other possibility?) that included the words See "Talk: page for more details... (Yes, complete with an unbalanced quotation mark!) (Is it too late to change that?)

Just "FYI". I thought it was interesting that such a blatant sentence error (a missing word) went for over 19 months before anyone corrected it. (Does that tell us something?)
