"Anglophone Quebecois" category edit

It says in his bio that his native language is French. Obviously he speaks English fluently, but if French is his first language I would say to remove him from any Anglo-Quebecois category, which should be reserved for the minority of Quebeckers who speak English as their fist language. A clear majority of people from that province are conversant in English. Trilobright (talk) 16:54, 11 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

His birth date edit

Well, he's definitely born on July 13rd, you can check his Twitter page, his colleagues from Better Call Saul wished him on that day and he thanked them. [1]He was born in the year of 1981, since the article from your reference was written and published after his birthday. MisterBean (talk) 18:39, 21 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Birth name edit

I have located three primary sources that indicate Mando's birth (or previous) name is Mikel Mroué.

  • A 1 March 2008 Montreal Gazette article identifing an actor playing Mohammed El Rafi in Relative Good as Mikel Mroué.

If anyone can corroborate this information with secondary sources, please do.

Ethnicity edit

Hi @Haleth, this is kind of a followup to the discussion on Vaas talk page, some secondary sources seem to refer to Mando as being of Mexican descent but I can't find any ones where he seems to self-identify as such. The Montreal Gazette only states that he plays a Mexican-American, and Looper seems to be the one which claims the Mexican descent here, and I don't know if Looper is always the most reliable. In his AMA he simply says his mother was born in Guinea and his father grew up in Germany, I've also found some odd references here and there claiming his father and or mother are Lebanese, (no reliable ones tho), which would make sense as French is a major language in Lebanon. ★Trekker (talk) 17:31, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Good work. I didn't look carefully into the sourcing as I was just linking Vaas to the page. The recent discussion in vg talk page flagged Looper as being unreliable and if we don't have any good sources, even self published ones, which specifically verify his ethnic background then its better to omit that information entirely, especially when we are dealing with a BLP. PS: It's quite telling in the Reddit AMA thread that Mando avoided answering the question about his ethnic background entirely, and his response only identified where his parents were born or raised. On a side note, it is possible that "Michael Mando" is only a stage name and not his real name. This document [chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/http://collections.banq.qc.ca/bitstream/52327/2472551/1/4921560.pdf here] identifies a "Mikel Mroué" who looks exactly like the subject in question. Of course, it is original research on my part and not to be used as a citation, unless Mando identifies himself as "Mikel Mroué" and gives more insight into his past in future interviews.Haleth (talk) 00:43, 18 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Haleth: The IP editor above found this. But personally since he seems to wish to be private on the subject I think we maybe should use some BLP caution and avoid it in the article unless it gets reported by some other source.★Trekker (talk) 01:00, 18 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
You're spot on. We can imply that he wishes to keep that aspect of his life private, so while we are confident the information we have found is likely to be true, doesn't mean they should be cited to this article out of respect for the subject's possible privacy concerns.
