What about the Tar Sands in Alberta Canada? This is not a hostile country, why is there no mention? The oil is in abundance. Should we be in fear of our future? OR Will we provide a peaceful solution to the need for these resources? This is not readily available but has the potential to be the second largest reserves in the world. Attitude towards China

edit

There is no mention of Klare's views on China, which is unfortunate because he has some very well defined views on China, which he sets forth in an article in Tom's Dispatch subsequently reproduced by AlterNet. [1] In this article he claims that "the boundaries between Chinese and U.S./allied territories in Asia are often highly contested." This statement is meaningless, because there are no US territories in Asia. Klare confuses the US with sovereign states that are American allies like Japan and the Philippines, and with other states that likewise have boundary conflicts with China that are not American allies, like Vietnam and Malaysia. Klare writes "For Beijing, this means asserting its sovereignty over Taiwan, the Diaoyu Islands, and the islands of the South China Sea." There are many islands, reefs and shoals in the South China Sea, and they belong to half a dozen different countries, not just to China. Furthermore Klare does not mention that China has usurped some reefs that are clearly within the sovereign zone of the Philippines and Vietnam and has built artificial islands on them on which it has placed military bases which threaten neighboring countries. China's claim to Taiwan and the Senkaku islands is dubious, since under settled international law Taiwan has a right to self-determination whereby it is free to declare independence at any time. All these half-truths and distortions show that Klare is not a serious scholar but a propagandist in favor of Chinese expansionism. STRAMBOTIKStrambotik (talk) 01:40, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
