Electoral performance edit

Needs tidying up. The text says that MK got almost 10% of the vote in Cornwall in 1979; the table says IIRC 5.9%. The legend also does not specify whether the % relates to Cornwall or the UK. I can only presume that it relates to Cornwall.GordyB 14:40, 8 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

According to this article, Mebyon Kernow got 3% of the votes in the 2019 election. It did not. The only candidate, Mr Cole, got 1660 votes of the 317,688 votes cast. That makes it 0.5 % of the votes cast — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.255.196.206 (talk) 12:58, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Mebyon kernow.jpeg edit

Image:Mebyon kernow.jpeg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I think I have fixed this - I have added a completed fair-use template to the image description page. I am somewhat inexperienced at this task, so fingers crossed! DuncanHill (talk) 21:29, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Mebyon Kernow are "civic nationalists" rather than "ethnic nationalists" ? edit

"They claim to campaign for all the people of Cornwall with a political programme that offers an alternative to the London-centred parties. Mebyon Kernow's policies closely mirror those of other UK nationalist parties such as Scotland's SNP, and Wales's Plaid Cymru, and they claim to be "civic nationalists" rather than "ethnic nationalists". They do not always make political capital from issues regarding Cornwall’s unique constitutional status and ethno-cultural status."

Although recently Mebyon Kernow has endeavored to secure wider public support via its civic nationalist approach, only a few years ago, MK included on it's website Cornish ethnic nationalist issues such as the proposed inclusion of the Cornish people in the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. It should be pointed out in the article that Cornwall's position is not in any way similar to either Wales or Scotland, both of whose status as nations were never in dispute (despite various Acts of Union to the contrary). Both of these countries are home to undisputed ethnic minorities and neither have constitutional mine-fields central to their core identity, as is the perceived problem with Cornish identity.Plugolom (talk) 11:10, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Actually this is not quite true. For many years, Wales was almost treated as part of England. Still is for some purposes. Scotland retained various structures - church(es), education, legal system etc, but Wales didn't.--MacRusgail (talk) 16:57, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

MK support the inclusion of the Cornish into the FCPNM edit

Added the following - "in August 2008 MK deputy leader, Conan Jenkin, expressed Mebyon Kernow's support for a proposed legal challenge by Cornwall 2000 over the UK Government's exclusion of the Cornish from the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. Cornwall 2000 need to show that they have exhausted all domestic legal avenues by having the case summarily dismissed by the High Court, the Appeal Court and the House of Lords, before the case can be put to the European Court of Human Rights. Mebyon Kernow have requested the support of all of its members for this legal action."217.44.80.225 (talk) 09:38, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merge proposal edit

  Done

Kernow X should be merged with this page. A notability tag has been there for several months and there is enough space on this article for details about this partys youth wing. BritishWatcher (talk) 16:02, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Support - seems reasonable.--MacRusgail (talk) 16:55, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Agreed, It’s not notable enough to have a page on its own but is certainly worthy of inclusion here. --Azhar Badr (talk) 12:37, 2 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Does "Kernow X" still exist? No evidence can be found online. Their blog stopped reporting in 2011, and there is no mention of them at the MK site.Serpren (talk) 02:51, 22 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

A couple of points - 1) the proposed merge was done in October 2009, and 2) contrary to what Serpren has just claimed, the MK website does mention Kernow X - just look at the "join" page, where it says "If any of the applicants are under 30 years old and would like to join Mebyon Kernow's youth group 'Kernow X', please list their names" DuncanHill (talk) 03:03, 22 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Apologies Duncan, and thanks for clarification Serpren (talk) 07:16, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Anniversary? edit

Some mention should be made of the anniversary last year. --MacRusgail (talk) 15:40, 29 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes. There was a book published for it.109.152.82.175 (talk) 03:41, 1 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
