Question about the discs edit
I don't understand the contest premise. Tell me if this is correct:
I am a contestant, so I get a random record, and if the record has a singer who completes the song all the way through, then I win and I can redeem my prize of one million dollars. If the record has an incomplete song, then I am a loser.

- The records weren't given randomly, they were inserted into Sunday papers nationwide. Also, does anyone have any info on the person who won this contest? From what I recall, the lady who won initially threw out her Sunday paper. It wasn't until her grandson who knew about the contest went dumpster diving to find the winning record.

From what I remember, the song was first featured in a television commercial. I think it was a young black guy who rapped the entire song. It might have even been a famous rap artist of the time. [Edit: The more I think about it, the less certain I am it was a rapper. -- Bavi_H] Shortly after that, they had the record contest. An advertisement flyer with McDonald's coupons was included in your newspaper with the square fexi-disc attached to it. The record contained a guy trying to teach the Menu Song to a class. The first part of the record has the teacher reciting the whole song, then the second part has the class trying to repeat the song back to him. If the class is able to finish the song, then the record is the winner of the million dollar prize. Various versions of the record were created with the class messing up at different points in the song. (I remember comparing the record my family got to our neighbors' record.)
You can hear what the record version of the song sounds like at the following YouTube link: McDonald's Menu Song. The original television commercial was much cooler than the record version, though. When the records came out, I expected it to feature the same version of the song I heard in the commercials, but was let down by the much cheesier version they had created. A note about copyright edit
Unlike most other songs, this "song" is actually a marketing slogan (albeit a very long one); because the article is about the marketing campaign, I feel that it is fair use to include the full slogan here, just as is done at Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. and Where's the Beef?.
