Please note that Mark Lawson mentions Wikipedia in his recent article, refering specifically to this recent anon edit. This may warrant further attention. As anon edit did not provide any sources, and Lawson refers to his edit as a mistake, I am reverting him.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 04:06, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

As an aside.... I too saw that article ML wrote mentioning his Wikipedia entry, and it's for that very reason that I went in and put the reference to the Viz cartoon, 'The Artful Podger', just so that he would read it!!!! Celebrities shouldn't let on that they read their Wikipedia articles.... Milvinder 20:56, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The anonymous editor 66.228.120.35 seems to have spent the first week in March adding statements about Jewish origin to dozens of Wiki biograohies. In many cases, these are spurious, and s/he has never added any comment about why this is worthy of comment in any case. I don't know whether the editor is an anti-Jewish racist trying to prove that Jews control the media, finance and politics, or a Jewish chauvinist trying to prove the same thing; but in either case this seems like an abuse of Wikipedia by an unidentified troll. Good point. 66.228.120.35 (talk · contribs) is a troll, no doubt about it. Revert on sight.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 22:11, 26 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Didn't ML write for the Catholic Herald or some such paper? Someone should fill the article out with that and his drooling love of all things American. Pliny 00:28, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Plastic Turkey

edit

In Dec 2003, Lawson wrote a column based on the claim that the turkey President Bush held up in front of photographers during his Thanksgiving 2003 trip to Baghdad was a plastic fake. He was wrong: that was a real turkey.[1] This plastic-turkey meme, and Lawson's key role in spreading it, are notorious in some parts of the blogosphere; should we say something about it in the article? (Has Lawson or The Guardian ever issued a retraction?) Cheers, CWC(talk) 04:35, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Update: Tim Blair has written a column in The Daily Telegraph (Australia) about this. CWC(talk) 18:23, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Leaving

edit

Apparently Lawson is leaving Front Row because there have been accusations of bullying. What is being claimed here, that Lawson has been bullied or that he is a bully? 86.166.161.236 (talk) 16:06, 5 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

This is not mentioned in the WP article. Anna (talk) 18:10, 5 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Bullying is a problem in the BBC Radio Arts Unit as a whole; the unit produces a number of programmes for Radio 3 and 4. Articles on such developments as Lawson leaving Front Row usually provide context and it is unclear if Lawson is involved in the bullying in any way. Remembering Liz MacKean and her untransmitted report on Savile for Newsnight, it can be the innocent and vindicated who have to leave their posts. Like most, I only have the reports of the last few hours to sift for information. Philip Cross (talk) 19:14, 5 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
RE WP:BLP you'd want hard sources before adding anything on this, either here or the article. Neither are the place for rumours or gossip. Anna (talk) 20:02, 5 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
I take back what I say above about Mark Lawson. The Telegraph article I have just cited in the article is clearly a reliable source. Whether Lawson has a defence for the claims which have clearly been made against him remains to be seen. Philip Cross (talk) 00:52, 6 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
