Mario vs. Donkey Kong (video game)Mario vs. Donkey KongMario vs. Donkey Kong has been redirected to Donkey Kong, so the "(video game)" disambiguation is unnecessary. JOEBRO64 21:23, 27 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose The BLAR done on the article that was previously there is anything but uncontroversial. The article should have been nominated for deletion or merging. I oppose the move on procedural grounds, a deletion discussion that finds the series page unnecessary will result in a move anyway. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 11:45, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Zx's above reasoning is needless bookkeeping and doesn't present a valid reason against the move per TheJoebro64's reasoning. Deletion is not cleanup, and an article that has only seen minor edits back and forth with no attempts at improvement is not a case of a "controversial" change.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 14:08, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Kung Fu Man: Sometimes process really is important and not just needless bureaucracy. I'll be more adamant about it and say that I oppose it on non-procedural grounds as well, as I think sources exist to support a series article. I found this overview from a WP:RS in a quick search which qualifies as significant coverage for the series and leads me to believe there is more out there that could be found if this deletion was well-publicized and not swept under the rug. I will keep searching for more sources on it. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 14:37, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
The reasoning above Zx isn't just on a notability ground, that's not the issue. Just because sources exist doesn't mean every subject needs a stand alone article, a matter you've brought up yourself at times in the past. At some point one needs to ask what benefit does having this separate give the reader or researcher?--Kung Fu Man (talk) 14:45, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Zxcvbnm, if anything that article supports the idea that Mario vs. Dk is a continuation of the main Dk arcade games, and not a wholly different thing. — Masem (t) 14:48, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Found another SIGCOV from Nintendo World Report about the series. I think it's safe to say that it's starting to look like it merits a standalone page. I'm far from a "literally everything needs a page" person but this is looking like a surmountable problem for an eminently notable Nintendo sub-series, which is what I was initially concerned about with the heavily rushed soft deletion. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 14:58, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Just to be clear, you didn't find "another" sigcov, because the first one is evidence that it should be merged. It feels like you just read the title of the Den of Geek article without reading the part where they're discussing the overall rivalry of Mario and DK spanning the Donkey Kong series, which includes MvDK. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 01:12, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
There is nothing wrong with being bold, and as I've been doing a lot of work on the Donkey Kong articles lately, I really don't think there's much about the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series that can't be said at the larger Donkey Kong article. It's not like Persona or Mana where it developed into a massive franchise in its own right, and looking at precedent regarding DK, there's an existing consensus that Donkey Kong Country, a subseries with a far greater claim to notability, doesn't need its own article. That Den of Geek source is talking about Mario and Donkey Kong's rivalry in general rather than the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series specifically, while the NWR one is just a brief release history that doesn't have much that couldn't be said at Donkey Kong. The article as it stood was also just a list of releases, which is redundant when List of Donkey Kong video games exists. JOEBRO64 17:09, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Support I see no issue with the merging of the series article to Donkey Kong... There are simply no reliable sources on the series itself to support notability, while being within the broader context of the DK franchise makes far more sense. That move then clears this page move appropriately. Masem (t) 14:11, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per Masem. λ NegativeMP1 15:52, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Support, and disappointed that a procedural AfD is derailing a result. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 01:12, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - Per rationale by TheJoebro64. Worse would be having all the info outright deleted so, merging it with the main DK page is the best possible outcome. 21:20, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Roberth Martinez (talk)

Note that it's unclear where Mario vs. Donkey Kong should go, given this result and absent a result for the AfD. For now I have left it at Mario vs. Donkey Kong (video game), although I have re-targeted the links that used to go to Mario vs Donkey Kong to Mario vs. Donkey Kong (sub-series); if the AfD is closed as keep or no consensus, any editor should feel free to move the article to any title other than Mario vs. Donkey Kong. BilledMammal (talk) 09:02, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Shouldn't the series article be Mario vs. Donkey Kong (sub-series)? This move has broken links across both pages. SuperWikiBrother (talk) 16:21, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Possibly; no objection to you moving it there. Regarding the links, I see I missed a couple at Mario vs. Donkey Kong; apologies. BilledMammal (talk) 07:28, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well, seeing as I can't move it unless it is decided on, I'd suggest having the series page being Mario vs. Donkey Kong and the game article Mario vs. Donkey Kong (video game); this is the case with many other articles including Sonic the Hedgehog/Sonic the Hedgehog (1991 video game), Angry Birds/Angry Birds (video game) and Mario Party/Mario Party (video game).
