Talk:Lucy Mecklenburgh

Notability edit

I have re-created this, but am alerting everyone involved in the recent AfD. I was really surprised to see the AfD result. Mecklenburgh meets WP:ENT #1 as significant member of three notable shows: The Only Way Is Essex, Tumble and Tour de Celeb. She also meets WP:GNG. I've added many reliable sources, but could have added many, many more. This article was badly written and mainly used tabloids as references, but that means it needed improvement. It is significantly different from before (in sourcing and tone more than basic content); if anyone feels it needs another AfD, they are welcome to open one. Alerting czar, Pmedema, Ritchie333, WJBscribe and SL93. Thanks, Boleyn (talk) 19:51, 10 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

A number of these sources are tabloid mentions—brief gossip that doesn't meet the general notability guideline (unless we are to write an article about who she is dating and which of her ex-lovers are better in bed). If her roles in these shows were significant, then why is there so little written in the article about them? I only closed the AfD per its clear consensus last time, but I think it would have been more appropriate to have requested feedback on a draft of this article rather than putting it back into mainspace after a clear AfD. Also this wouldn't need to go back to AfD to be redirected, both because there is already a recent consensus and especially because AfD is for deletion discussions only and redirection is handled by talk page discussion.   czar 20:16, 10 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Czar, I created the article two hours ago, so there may well be room for improvement, but this already includes many reliable sources which reference the information which is in the article - referencing that she has been in three notable shows. Which sources do you consider tabloids? Boleyn (talk) 20:47, 10 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

The refs appear to be messed up, but the titles still accurately reflect the contents, particularly the dating ones ('Love was missing from my life', etc.) The Telegraph is a fine source, but look at the content—

Stop Press. Louis Smith is in love. It’s in the tabloids. The Twittersphere is tweeting in full throat. There are rumours of a run on hats at Marks & Spencer.

These are fine to fill out a person's background but for notability, how is she known? As a performer or as a socialite? If the latter, we're not talking about ENT#1 and the sourcing would still be weak—the sources on her career mention her briefly or even less. If both, there is still no depth in either the show-related articles (nevertheless the tabloids) What justice can be done to the subject based on that sourcing without massively undue weight to her dating life? It would help if there was at least one source that covered her in enough depth that its paraphrase could serve as the basis for the article   czar 22:00, 10 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

She is not essentially known as a 'socialite' but for her roles in the three reality TV shows, which meets WP:ENT #1. There are dozens of reliably-sourced articles which are wholly on her, so in-depth in that way, but not necessarily giving a great amount of detail about her and her life. This would still meet WP:BASIC: If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability. As her relationships were essentially plotlines in the notable TV show The Only Way Is Essex (Wright,

Falcone and to a lesser extent Max George), a lot of coverage will be on that, plus Smith who she met on Tumble. However, I have trimmed this section because it isn't necessary. I've also added a lot of references and extra information on her businesses, modelling and book. Boleyn (talk) 06:31, 11 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
