It's hard to overstate the enormous contributions Lithuanians have made to Chicago, but this article is a bit muddled in its current (unsourced) incarnation. There's no Lith. equivalent to Chgo's Ukrainian Village or Little Italy, so the category "Chicago neighborhoods" is inappropriate. The very title is confusing: Little Lithuania already has a received meaning, and the Encylopedia of Chicago, in its page-long history of Lithuanians in Chicago, makes no mention of the term. Billbrock 07:32, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

BTW, the E of C sez that "Lithuanians usually claim that Chicago had about 50,000 of their conationals by 1914" (page 489). Billbrock 07:42, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lithuanians in Chicago edit

Redirects here, but isn't that a more appropriate title? Again, see the Encylopedia of Chicago. Billbrock 09:01, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it is. Moved. Renata 10:34, 14 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lithuanians in Chicago edit

TWO problems: Lithuanians were in Chicago long before the 20th century. Commonly mentioned--the Prussian-Lithuanian Hansas Portas in Bridgeport in the 1840s. 1st Lith parish on Noble near Chicago, 1870s. A Lithuanian priest Was the first pastor of St Stanislaus Kostka Polish parish c: 1870. (this can be found In the archdiocese records). And the private language school at the youth center was not Founded in 1990s but at least as early as the late 1950s. These need to be documented and corrected. User:Aplietuva, it would indeed be a good idea if this information could be documented, included in this article, and referenced as you mentioned. Unfortunately, this User_talk comment is the only edit you have ever made to this English Wikipedia, and it has been three and a half years since then. If you can come back and make the above described edit citing one or more references, it would be nice. You must be familiar with where the references are. Perhaps this article should be moved to Lithuanian community in Chicago? M.K. (talk) 09:09, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lithuanians in Chicago is nice and simple, and you (or someone) already made Lithuanian community in Chicago a Redirect to Lithuanians in Chicago, so that problem is solved. However a more accurate title would be Lithuanians in Chicago area, since many Lithuanians are also in the Chicago suburbs, but participate in the overall Chicago area life. For example, the Lithuanian World Center and Ateitininkų Namai are both in Lemont in the Chicago area, but outside of the city of Chicago itself. For now, I have made Lithuanians in Chicago area and Lithuanians in Chicagoland both Redirects to Lithuanians in Chicago. However, I think a move from Lithuanians in Chicago to Lithuanians in Chicago area would be a good idea. For now, I will wait until somebody else takes the bold step of moving this article that way. Nobody else did, so I took the "bold" step of moving this article to Lithuanians in the Chicago area.
