Notability of Muslim Mosque Association Mosque edit

I'm opening this topic to discuss the notability of the Muslim Mosque Association Mosque, a mosque located on 411 V Street in Sacramento, California. The mosque is purported to be the oldest in California, as well as the oldest "west of the Mississippi" (in the western United States).

According to their own website and independent reports from KCRA, Sacramento Post, and FOX 40 Sacramento, the Muslim Mosque Association congregation was formed and met in a residential building located in the Southside Park neighborhood of Sacramento. The building was converted into a mosque for the first congregation, the first of its kind in California. This would make the mosque the oldest in California and the oldest building of its type (an Islamic place of worship) in California, which fulfills notability guidelines.

This was corroborated with a report from SFWeekly about the Islamic Center of San Francisco that the only other mosque in Northern California during the 1960s was the "Masjid Annur" (English: "Mosque of the Light", a generic mosque name) in Sacramento. This shouldn't be confused with the Masjid Annur Islamic Center, which is a separate mosque established by a different group at a later date. The oldest mosque in Southern California is the Masjidul Taqwa in San Diego, which was founded in 1949 according to their own website and predates the Islamic Center of Southern California whose current mosque dates to the late 1970s according to the former vice chairman of the mosque.

This goes a long way to say that the Muslim Mosque Association Mosque is of note and should be included in the list of oldest buildings in California under the pretext that it is the oldest of its type (an Islamic place of worship). It honestly should have its own article. Ponderosapine210 (talk) 03:52, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
