Scope
editLovely to see this page, though it's a blot on Newport City Council's escutcheon that the one artwork listed at the moment has been destroyed.
It's worth noting that Gwent is not, at the moment, one of the counties of Wales, but it seems likely that it will be re-created in the forthcoming local government reorganisation; cf. this statement from the Welsh Government and this list of the "preserved counties", i.e. those that existed between 1974 and 1996. The WG is proposing a new county comprising Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Torfaen, Monmouthshire and Newport, identical to the old Gwent.
The current situation means that Category:Gwent and its equivalent on Commons are far more sparsely populated than Category:Newport, Wales, etc. So there is no Category:Culture in Gwent (currently a redlinked category at the bottom of this list), but there is Category:Culture in Newport, Wales. Personally, I would stay with the existing boundaries for the time being so that the list fits the category structure. (This also points to the fact that all the categories on Wikipedia and Commons will have to be changed when the reorganisation goes ahead.) Ham II (talk) 16:12, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
- For info, Category:Gwent was just renamed to Category:Gwent (county). – Fayenatic London 20:57, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
