Many of the citation needed tabs are explained clearly on the individuals' page. Is there a policy on that? I'm not used to editing this part of Wikipedia, so I don't know.Hwdirre (talk)

Fictional / notable

edit

Just curious, why do fictional characters from TV Soaps get listed here?

Jack Bauer - fictional character from the television program 24
Sydney Bristow - fictional character from the television program Alias

An An 06:49, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

To showcase the confluence between brand name recognition and the popular arts, specifically in how a university's name can double as means for adding some quality to a fictional character. Jack Bauer is a UCLA and Berkeley graduate, so the intention is to offer up a robust view of his talents.

Go Bruins, even the imaginary ones.

I think its fatuous. If you're fictional, you can't actually achieve anything and hence can't become notable. Though perhaps there should be a "fictional characters" subheading. An An 01:54, 11 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Please note the passing of Guy Carawan on may 2, 2015 at age 87. He was famous folk singer, co-creator of We Shall Overcome. BA, MA sociology UCLA 1952. He was my roommate and friend and proud Bruin. Dr. Frank F. Montalvo, BA. MSW 1952. Alumnus. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:304:6809:6DF0:5572:4FBA:9A18:526B (talk) 21:01, 10 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup

This article should have years of degrees and, if possible, the level of the degree (B.A., B.S., M.A.,M.S., PhD), etc. 4.228.213.207 16:11, 19 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

What exactly constitutes "noteable?"U235 11:11, 10 December 2006 (UTC)u235Reply

Wikipedia:Notability (people) explains Wikipedia's definition of "notability" as it applies to people. For purposes of this article, my understanding is that the notability requirement essentially means that somebody shouldn't be included in the list unless there's a Wikipedia article about him or her. --Alexbook (talk) 04:57, 9 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Added more

edit

I've added Adam Sessler, he is a graduate with a bachelor's degree in English literature at UCLA. --SkinnerIJA 04:37, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Franklin D. Gilliam Jr.

edit

Franklin D. Gilliam Jr. is currently vice-chancellor at UCLA. He is the highest-ranking African-American currently on campus. This information is from MSNBC --Ancheta Wis 09:34, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Current students

edit

I'm afraid that the "current students" section is likely to quickly get out of date. I suggest that we just add the names to the relevant sections and not bother indicating who is currently enrolled. Thoughts?   Will Beback  talk  21:28, 28 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

The information in the section was stale, so I went ahead and folded it into the main students section. --Alexbook (talk) 04:57, 9 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Faculty and coaches

edit

Aren't coaches members of the faculty? Should "coaches" be a sub-section instead of a main section? --Alexbook (talk) 16:13, 24 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I've merged coaches into the faculty section and renamed it "faculty and staff", which should cover everybody. I hope nobody objects. --Alexbook (talk) 04:57, 9 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
I guess somebody objected. Never mind, then. --Alexbook (talk) 14:32, 10 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

What's the criteria for being listed here?

edit

Either long NFL career or notable college career I'm assuming. Judging by Kris Farris's inclusion. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 23:38, 26 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Olympic medalists in swimming

edit

Hey, UCLA fans and alumni. I work a lot on Wikipedia swimming articles, and I noticed that this list omits most of the Olympic medalists in swimming that UCLA has produced over the years. You may want to consider creating a separate section for swimmers (see Category:UCLA Bruins swimmers), because there are over a dozen UCLA swimmers who have won Olympic medals, and at least another half dozen who won medals in other international competitions like the Pan American Games and FINA world championships. Orphaned references in List of University of California, Los Angeles people

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of University of California, Los Angeles people's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "palyvoice":

  • From Mark Schultz (wrestler): Brown, George; Prioleau, Cassie (February 19, 2010). "Palo Alto High School wrestlers Dave and Mark Schultz remembered for Olympic gold medals, love of wrestling". The Paly Voice. Palo Alto High School. Retrieved January 2, 2012.
  • From James Franco: Kwok, Adrienne; Maese-Czeropski, Aidan (2015-09-07). "James Franco to teach film course in MAC". The Paly Voice. Retrieved 2015-09-29.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 04:59, 8 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ease of read

edit

Hi all,
Was just passing through - great work you've done here. Very extensive list!
I was just wondering whether we might increase the ease for readers by...

  • ...introducing the same format across all sub-sections
  • ...using collapsable and sortable tables (following WP:DOAL)

I think overall this would serve the purpose of lists like this and all readers.
Of course it'd be work and change (and who ever likes those?! ;)) - but I think it'd be great improvements! What do you think?
