I was almost about to plug a speedy delete on this, for its lack of any form, but I figured I'll give the author the benefit of the doubt. If this site can be added to, then it should be moved to another name. 'Massacre' is a very non-neutral word and should be avoided. Otherwise, it should be deleted. Do you have any suggestions for a name? I am simply using the naming used in the sources that I have on hand, including the Press Releases from the Eritrean Liberation Front and the book from the Historical Dictionary of Eritrea. --Merhawie 00:41, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
The list referes to the killing of innocent civilians. It fittes very well to the definition of Massacres. So I don't see why this should be removed? yonas

The demonstrations at Tiananmen Sqaure were also killing of innocent civilians, however the term massacre is not used on Wikipedia, except as poart of a list of alternate names.Sloverlord 22:30, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I disagree List of massacres. --Merhawie 22:31, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
The article is much more complete now and gives a better view that these were indeed massacres. I humbly retract my previous statements. Sloverlord 16:44, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
You are very much right Sloverlord, it was terribly incomplete earlier and you prompted me to improve much more quickly than I had planned. Thank you for the push! --Merhawie 16:55, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Subjective. edit

I think it is LITTLE likely that ONLY Ethiopia committed massacres during the 31-year-long conflict. After they captured Massawa in 1988, they blocked the city so the Ethiopian troops couldn't get out of the valley, and POWs were killed - thousands. I think it was 18 000 that were shot then or something. 18 000 murdered, isn't that a massacre? --188.113.91.110 (talk) 16:29, 20 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

And with this brutallity against soldiers, and that they blocked the city and valley there so they shouldn't get out, I think it's unlikely that they never attacked civilians. I think they must have committed MANY massacres. --188.113.91.110 (talk) 16:32, 20 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

If you wish to add a list of EPLF or any other Eritrean armed group that committed atrocities against the Ethiopian Military, then you're free to choose to do that. However, from my knowledge the EPLF gave the Ethiopian Military an ultamative to surrender by noon. The Ethiopian commanders decided not to do so; therefore the EPLF attacked. Even without the idea of giving them an opportunity to surrender, it is still not a massacre since the troops were still armed. BTW the struggle for independence lasted for 30 years, and the battle of massawa took place in 1990. You can't even get the dates right, and want to make argument. smdh Ericandude (talk) 01:33, 13 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment I have removed the misplaced PROD located here, please use PROD only in article space, not talk space. Safiel (talk) 02:58, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

This entry is a list of "'massacres' committed by successive Ethiopian governments on 'Eritreans'". The title does not reflect the content and is in fact critically misleading. Other than this major concern, the entry has several issues of serious concern: (1) appropriateness of the word "massacre" to describe all the incidents listed cannot be decided on Wikipedia, i.e. credible and neutral source has to be cited demonstrating common use of the term on all incidents listed; (2) given the sensitive nature of the subject matter, it is very important that majority of the references used in this page not be either Eritrean government documents, state newspapers and opinion websites (pro-Eritrean government), as is the case now. If it is decided to keep the page, say with improvements, then it should at least be as a section in another entry, for example in Eritrean War of Independence.SamuelN77 (talk) 02:47, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
