Talk:List of films banned in the United States

Latest comment: 4 years ago by SummerPhDv2.0 in topic Song Of The South

Battle Royale was banned, surely..?

What about "If You Love This Planet", "Acid Rain: Requiem or Recovery" and "Acid From Heaven"? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1744758/trivia?tab=tr&item=tr1318244 --BoHeMlam (talk) 10:55, 2 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Life of Brian needs a new reference. Disinformation book of lists does not contain this movie.

Should Song of the South (Disney) be on here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:A000:B8E2:C01:806D:A1E8:99D:3CBE (talk) 01:27, 5 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Passive voice

edit

"The film was banned by the First Upright Church of Sheboygan for showing women with their heads uncovered." is active voice. The action occurring has an actor. In this case, we know that a church banned the film, rather than the Sheboygan City Council, a theater chain, the Wisconsin State Senate or anyone else. It is informative.

"The film was banned for showing women with their heads uncovered" leave us hanging. Was this the action of a concerned preacher? A reactive state government? Who knows?

I've tagged one. When I feel like it, I'll come back and read the sources/research to clean these up. If anyone else happens by and wants to earn a gold star, have at it. - SummerPhDv2.0 20:17, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Song Of The South

edit

Shall we add Song of the South on the list? The controversy & racism is due to the African Americans in this film which was why it was never released on home video on the United States. --Evope (talk) 02:18, 23 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

That Disney (wisely, it seems) did not release it on home video does not constitute a "ban". The John Travolta/Lily Tomlin stinker Moment by Moment was never released on home video either, apparently because it's an embarrassment all around, but it wasn't "banned" either. - SummerPhDv2.0 04:12, 23 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Is there a reason why some of the reasons given for banning are bolded but others aren't?

If the reason is just that the editor performing the bolding thought it was a particular momentous reason, then we could safely debold …
