I have taken this section complete as it stood from the article Fanny Mendelssohn. Whoever originally contributed it did not bother with capital letters, spelling or explanations. But rather than delete it I thought it better to remove it here until such time as I or anyone else could tidy it up or replace it.--Smerus 14:42, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Merge proposal

The page Works of Fanny Hensel duplicates much of what is on this page. Moreover:

• It was settled after many discussions that this subject's principal reference name on wikipedia should be 'Fanny Mendelsssohn'
• The standard Wikipedia format for pages such as this is 'List of compositions by....'

Therefore the two pages should be merged into this one. The result will still need tidying as the 'incoming' is as incoherently set out as the present one. Still, one garbled page is better than two.--Smerus 20:46, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

I point out in my defence that the neither article (or indeed your communication above ) uses capital letters. Moreover, neither groups the works according to type - they are in fact just long lists. these factors make them very difficult for the reader to use - de facto incoherent. But they can be improved. For you to ask for both to be deleted is cutting off your nose to spite your face. I am against both articles being deleted, I wish to see them merged into one useful article; moreover, an article which is in accordance with Wikipedia conventions. Please don't be offended by a frank expression of opinion; there is nothing personal here. Poor organization

As a reference tool, this list is useless. The data needs to be more thoroughly researched, and then organized according to standard criteria - opus number, type of work, etc. PJtP (talk) 02:37, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Organization proposal

Given how few of her compositions were published with opus numbers, I think there's value in retaining all items in this list, and organization by year of composition has some merit. Or at least I would be pleasantly surprised if anyone offered to do a wholesale reorganization by genre. However, there would also be value in having a list of the published compositions by opus number. For the sets of songs and the Songs Without Words for piano, this could include the names of the individual pieces. I therefore propose that this page include both the existing chronological list of all compositions and a list by opus number of the published compositions. Below is a draft list. Have I left anything out? If no one objects to this proposal, I can format the list below for the article, or anyone else please feel free to.

Copyright issues?

List was emptied, apart from published opus numbers: was there a real copyright problem? Or can we ask someone who may be more experienced? I also think the full reference of Hellwig-Unruh's catalogue should be given, that is, including ISBN number. This is what I found (here): ISBN 3-9521049-3-0; BTW that page also has the full list, and could be given as an EL (unless there's a copyright infringement, but, as said, I'm not sure there is). Afaik, just giving numbers and names of compositions, referenced to the source that holds these numbers, is not a copyright infringement. Compare Wikipedia articles about recent recordings: the recording is copyrighted; the liner notes that hold the track numbers and titles of the songs in the recording are copyrighted; listing the songs of the recording, with the numbers with which they appear in the liner notes is not a copyright problem for Wikipedia afaik.
