That is not an established fact - that her sister is raising Peggy's baby. Her sister was pregnant when she was shown visiting Peggy at the hospital after she gave birth, so the baby her sister is raising could very well be her own baby, and Peggy nephew. 165.189.169.138 (talk) 15:58, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Sections

This page is a mess in terms of what's sectioned and what's not. It's preposterous that primary, frequent characters such as Harry Crane and Paul Kinsey are resigned to a single Sterling Cooper section, yet every single family and friend gets their own section. Bogus. Most of them, save for the Draper children and a couple of Don's hoes, shouldn't have that higher degree of notability. Who else agrees that it's more appropriate (if at all) for the employees to have sections, but not the minor characters that are less frequent and often resigned to single seasons?--Cinemaniac⁸⁶_{Dane_Cook_Hater_Extraordinaire} 09:15, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

The real life persons upon which some of the show's characters are based

As it would seem to be of interest to many, it would be fitting to include a section in which the inspiration for certain recurrent characters is explained. Although it does not appear to be true in all cases, many of the characters on the show are based on real men or women. One recent example is the character of Conrad Hilton. Because some characters have been inspired by actual persons, it causes one to wonder if this isn’t also true of other characters. Most notably, there has been considerable internet chatter regarding the character of Jimmy Barrett and whether or not he is based on an actual person or simply a composite. Much of the show’s appeal stems from the way in which it combines fictitious story lines with actual people and historical events. Distinguishing among secondary, recurring, and minor characters

I think there needs to be a set definition of what secondary characters, recurring characters, and minor characters mean (I think listing Don, Betty, Peggy, Pete, Joan, and Roger as primary characters is fine). Some of the names under minor characters sound like they should be listed as recurring (and I'll admit, some of the names I added fall into that trap as well). Are minor characters merely characters that show up and have little to no character development, or characters that only appear in one or two episodes? Teutonic?

Dr. Greta Guttman is described in the article as "stern and Teutonic". I am curious about the latter choice of word. Teutonic is an ancient, Germanic tribe, and I would like to know how it is relevant, or where it is mentioned that her ethnicity dates back to the Teutons? If the person who added that word meant is as an adjective, I wonder what exactly they mean by it, because as far as I know, Teutonic is not an adjective. - Mdriver1981 (talk) 03:54, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Just FYI, in English, "Teutonic" means not only "relating to the Teuton tribe," it also means "having the stereotypic characteristics of Germanic people," such as lack of humor, stern manner, strict discipline, etc. Acsenray (talk) 20:56, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

I do not believe I have ever heard one called "Teutonic" because they do not smile or care for jokes or do things in a strict military-like order. That is very new to me. Nor was I am aware that that is how Germans are, or the character of Dr. Guttman. Mdriver1981 (talk) 02:41, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

article too long, too detailed

This article has gotten out of control. It includes too much minute detail, lacks significant references, and has generally grown too long. Much of this detail might be appropriate for the wiki dedeicated to the topic but is not appropriate for Wikipedia. • Removing "other characters" was a bridge to far IMO. Many of the characters there are hugely important to the plot (i.e. Joan's husband, Don's fiance, Roger's wives, the maid from all 4 seasons.) It would be fairly easy to back that up with non-primary references, since this show gets so much attention from TV reviewers/critics. Add some factual informartion, reviews etc.. the list's previous versions held too much exsessive detail.. which could have been said with less prose. Exact same sentence used to describe multiple characters

The following sentence is used to describe both Cosgrove, Crane, and Kinsey:

He initially features as part of Pete's entourage, seeming to spend more of his time in the office drinking, flirting, and gossiping than actually working.

This seems like a mistake or at the very least, bad writing. I don't know enough about the show to decide which character this describes better. Attys (talk) 05:48, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

The four of them are a kind of clique, but the person who put that in the article could have worded each differently. You could say that most of the characters in the show spend their time doing that. Joey Baird

I removed a suggestion that Peggy fired Joey because he made comments about Trudy's pregnancy. That happened four episodes earlier and it was clear then that Peggy was upset because she gave up a child she had with Pete. Harry Crane

I also edited Harry's section, deleting a suggestion that Harry helped Paul get out of town for his own convenience. This is another addition that doesn't make sense. Harry gave him money and advised him to leave for California immediately because he realized Paul's girlfriend was crazy and that he (Paul) needed a way out, but wouldn't be able to do it without a push. In which episode is it revealed that Tammy Campbell's name is Tamsin? I can't find any source that mentions it either leading me to believe it's a fan theory that's been repeated multiple times in this article 2600:1700:9575:E1E0:977:DA12:A12C:E16F (talk) 19:44, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
