Talk:List of German monarchs in 1918

Improperly placed template tag edit

A template tag has been placed at the head of this article incorrectly. The template tag used REQUIRES that the issue concerned be referred to her in the talk page for discussion which was not done.

I assume that the title of this article, which is highly informative and useful imo (even if it does seem not to match the usual Wiki style guidelines), was forced upon the editor as German monarchy has an redirect set up on it to German Empire. On the other hand the title could have been chosen to the fact that the monarchy was replaced by a federal republic in 1918.

imo

  • the redirect should be removed as the German monarchy and the German Empire are not synonymous
  • this article should imo be renamed "The German monarchy", as it appears to detail the history of this either in its entirety, or at least from 900 until 1918. The dates, from the first monarch to the last could be included in the introduction if appropriate
  • the article should be expanded with text to explain the various categories to readers unfamiliar with the terms used in respect of German tradition and language.

I AGREE. German monarchy has an redirect set up on it to German Empire. In consensus, I agree this redirect be removed, and agree this article should be named "German Monarchy." I have asked Srnec‎ to undo his recent name-change, and redo "German Monarchy" as the new title. Ta Steve. Stephen2nd (talk) 00:08, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Merge with List of German monarchs edit

I have found that this article appears to cover the same ground as List of German monarchs . I suggest that the two articles should be merged. --LookingGlass (talk) 19:11, 15 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi LookingGlass, the "1918" seemed appropriate, as this was the final year of the monarchy structure, prior to its change. It was my intention to wait until the title was changed, or decided to be kept the same, before I linked the article to other associated articles.
Also, due to my health &c, I have been unable to finish the article, expand and separate the sections for texts, and include other relevant issues. I am editing in a list of "see also" and a "German Monarchy" info-box. I hope to be able to expand and finish this editing over the next few months. I hear you Steve, and sorry to hear of your ill-health. What do you think about mergeing the two articles though? They seem to me to cover precisely the same ground. LookingGlass (talk) 18:08, 24 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I Agree: It is a good idea to merge details of all German monarchs/rulers into this article. Unfortunately, I’m recovering from TIA (arm paralysis) following my STV (200+ bpm) surgery in December, and since cited in a (closed material procedures) RIPA prosecution, so I may not be available. However, there are a lot of family trees, crowned heads, and especially texts, to edit into these templates which I will complete asap, 1 x List of Emperors of Prussia and 22 x Lists for each titled ruler of their Empire-states. I envisage two drop-down sections on each of the 23 existing image blocks. The existing family tree sections will each contain other family trees and house-trees. A second drop-down box on each section will contain images and details of previous Emps, kings &c. I will set up a wiki-template to accommodate these images, so as not to swamp the page. Would you be interested in doing the monarchy-merge (template) sections? If you are interested in helping me complete this, or have any more suggestions please let me know. Ta Steve. Hesse-Kassel-Mecklenburg-Strelitz edit

Why is the Head of the House of Hesse-Kassel in the list? Hesse-Kassel was annexed by Prussia in 1866. Also, the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz is missing.--85.74.103.132 (talk) 15:51, 23 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

why, Stephen? edit

How is a list of military units, let alone a collection of battle maps (even hidden), relevant to a list of monarchs?

How is the article improved by opening with a German vocabulary lesson? —Tamfang (talk) 20:02, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Duplication? edit

Why is Prince Frederich Charles listed as the ruler of the Grand Duchy of Hesse under Princes and Principalities (1918), when Grand Duke Ernest Louis was the ruler, listed under Grand Dukes and Grand Duchies (1918)? Tiller54 (talk) 10:45, 19 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

New corresponding article edit

I've created a new article to explain some circumstances of the Abdication Statement. Kaiserreich abdication of Wilhelm II. Albeit I'm still a bit rusty, I'll try to improve these articles, eventually, although I do appreciate all helpful contributions from fellow Wikipedants. Regards Stephen. Abdication edit

I came to this article wanting to find out which German ruler was the last to abdicate, which it didn't tell me. In case anyone else wants to know, the exact dates of abdication were:

  • 8 November: Brunswick

  • 10 November: Saxe-Meiningen
  • 11 November: Oldenburg, Reuss (both)
  • 12 November: Anhalt, Lippe
  • 13 November: Bavaria, Saxony, Saxe-Altenburg, Waldeck
  • 14 November: Mecklenburg, Saxe-Coburg
  • 16 November: Schaumburg-Lippe
  • 22 November: Baden, Schwarzburg
  • 30 November: Württemberg

Luxembourg edit

Luxembourg was invaded and completely occupied from the early days of the war to its end. The government under the Grand Duchess ruled as part of the German Empire and had to abdicate along with the rest of them. Shouldn't she be included? Arglebargle79 (talk) 13:46, 2 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
