Can we rename lists of minor characters to general lists of characters by year?

I proposed this on the Project Emmerdale talk page a few weeks ago:

Instead of listing "minor" characters by year why we don't list all characters by their year of first appearance? EastEnders characters are listed this way. For example, List of EastEnders characters (1985) shows both major and minor characters introduced in the year 1985. Minor characters, like Reg Cox, are provided with short entries and major characters who have their own articles, like Den Watts, are linked to.

So, for example, List of minor Emmerdale characters (2009) would be renamed List of Emmerdale characters (2009), and so on. We list all characters, minor and major, who were introduced in that particular year."

I'm reposting it so that my proposal will get more views and responses. It is a tidier way of listing the characters and as Anemone wrote it "helped solve the problem of deciding which characters are minor and which aren't." I don't want to start reformatting the character pages without the consent of other editors involved in maintaining Emmerdale pages. Am86 (talk) 13:12, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

An Article For Alicia Gallagher

Since the section for Alicia Gallagher takes up about 1/4 of the page, why has she not been given her own article? Is she even considered a minor character? Vuvuzela2010 (talk) 05:41, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Because she isn't notable enough? Her entry is just storylines (which need a drastic trim) with no sources. If she was moved to a seperate article now, she would probably just be moved back to the list or the article might be deleted. Try improving her list entry first, add some out of universe info with reliable sources and trim the storylines. - JuneGloom Talk 23:58, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

I agree, the section looks much better now, but how exactly is a minor character defined? Ella Hart seems like a minor character, but unlike Alicia she has her own article, despite being in the programme for a shorter period and has not really done anything since conning Nathan. I think the list has the wrong name, it should just be List of Emmerdale characters (2010) (but changing it and the rest of them may need a discussion first). I agree that Ella probably should have stayed in the list a while longer. Alicia could have her own article if enough out of universe info is found, I only added a little so her section wasn't just storylines. Perhaps you'd like to work on that? You could work in your userspace or offline or I can see if anyone else is willing to do it (I have a user in mind)? I would have a go, but my to-do list is huge at the moment. :) - JuneGloom Talk 15:24, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
