Talk:List of Dutch people

Latest comment: 11 years ago by MezzoMezzo in topic Education

I am preparing a page for HRH Princess (formerly) Irene of the Netherlands. Bear with me, because I had it mainly complete after librsy research but AxelBold (whatever) said I lied about FACTS OF HISTORY. So, I shall amend my work to include detailed references, including the association and membership of the Falange Party under its Head, Princess Irene's husband.

Jheijmans, why do you think that Erasmus of Rotterdam will be clearer than the previous description Desiderius Erasmus? Just curious... link is identical.

Good question. I thought that because his name was listed as such in Wikipedia, it would be the best name, but after checking, I discovered that there's some (unresolved?) discussion on this at Talk:Erasmus of Rotterdam. Anyway, I thought the "of Rotterdam" in Latin was unnecessary. I'll try to find what his best known name in English is, that's where the article (and this link) should be. Jeronimo
Looked into the topic some more, and it appears that he is best known (in English) as simply "Erasmus". If anything else is said, it's "Desiderius Erasmus". However, as Erasmus is still free (and in fact a redirect to Erasmus of Rotterdam), I'll move him there. Jeronimo
Very good! TeunSpaans

Jakko Jan Leeuwangh

edit

I have taken the liberty to remove Jakko Jan Leeuwangh from the list (speed skater, finished 4th at Olympic Games): are we gonna add 1000 less famous Dutch sporters here? better do this in a separate list, if at all Erik Zachte 10:17 22 Jun 2003 (UTC)

He did hold the 1500 metres world record for some time... -mrbartjens 21:00, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Anne Frank

edit

I've just added Anne Frank under writers, listing her as a diarist. She already appeared under the vague section "History". Is this OK? I just thought the reason she's famous is that she wrote a diary of life in hiding.

You are very right! Thank you for the edit and please go ahead and fix similar problems you run into! gidonb 17:14, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I had too remove her; Germans Jews are not Dutch. 85.146.24.65 (talk) 01:56, 1 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
She lost the German nationality in 1941. 82.95.25.120 (talk) 15:50, 9 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Harm Wiersma

edit

I put him back because I started an article on him. He won the world checkers championship enough times I'm hoping he counts as notable. Also he was an LPF politician. The article at present is more on his politics as that seems a bit easier to write. I love checkers, but the information I find on his checkers career is a bit hard to make accessible. Still he's more of a checkers player than anything else so I decided against him being in politicians as he was not in politicians before.--T. Anthony 17:07, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Geert Mak

edit

Geert Mak is not an historian, he is a writer. He isn't qualified as an historian and his books are not historically correct. He is a writer about historical subjects but that is not the same —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.169.216.47 (talk) 13:10, 28 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Education

edit

I propose creating a section for Dutch people involved in education. While the science and technology section covers part of that, as does the arts, there are some academics who may not fit into either category. MezzoMezzo (talk) 07:03, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
