How is Armenia not a part of Asia? edit

Huh?

Armenia is not part of Asia. Armenia is part of Europe.(marccronquist@ymail.com)
Armenia is both. 76.66.197.30 (talk) 05:06, 30 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Azerbaijan is in Asia only as such should be included.SchumiChamp (talk) 10:06, 15 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Armenia is in Asia fully. Gatorbearratica (talk) 15:39, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Omissions edit

There are several omissions here.

1. Turkey is predominantly in Asia, not Europe, yet it is not included here. 2. Russia, Kazakstan, Indonesia, Egypt, Armenia, and Azerbaijan are states that are part of two continents and as such: a. this should be noted on this page; b. all of these states should in one way or another be included. Ideally, the Asiatic portion of the population would be available and noted in this list, but even in the absence of such figures, that is no excuse for excluding these countries from this list without a notation. ludahai 魯大海 (talk) 13:21, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I should probably respond here too. The current inclusion/exclusion of countries in the article I believe is headed towards POV as it seems like we are selecting countries based on personal preferences. In general we should try and avoid having preference of one definition of Asia. See first thread on the article for example. I agree with the addition notes and the inclusion of the countries that are part of Asia but also other continents. Elockid (Talk) 03:34, 3 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

You forgotten Georgia. Armenia is not in continental Europe and doesn't haves any territory in Europe but Georgia haves territories. --94.240.236.190 (talk) 14:50, 25 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Cambodia edit

Is there a reason you guys are excluding Cambodia? 71.165.41.117 (talk) 05:56, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Fixed. It was owing to a code mistake (CAM instead of KHM) which prevented Cambodia for appearing in this fully macro-generated table. Thank you for telling. :-)

Taiwan/ROC edit

Wikipedia recognizes Taiwan/ROC in the very least as a separate statistical entity. Palestine is on this list, after all. Why is Taiwan not included? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.114.252.236 (talk) 14:04, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Cyprus is not part of Asia edit

Cyprus belongs to Europe. By no means it's part of Asia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.6.56.88 (talk) 19:39, 3 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Cyprus is fully in West Asia none of Cyprus is in Europe. Gatorbearratica (talk) 15:38, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Russia edit

Asian part of Russia (Far Eastern Federal District, Siberian Federal District and Tyumen Oblast) has estimated population of 29,065,600 on January 1, 2014 source. --178.252.126.70 (talk) 20:58, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Inclusion of Macau and Hong Kong? edit

Hong Kong and Macau are not generally considered countries (even though they are country-like). It seems natural to include them but without numbering them, similar to what is done on the List of Oceanian countries by population and the List of European countries by population? Cstanford.math (talk) 20:03, 2 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

They shouldn’t be included since they are regions not countries. Gatorbearratica (talk) 15:38, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Update Projection Date? edit

The projection date column is in July 2015, which is more than 6 years ago. Should I change the date of the projection column and the numbers? — Preceding unsigned comment added by HiCalvin (talkcontribs) 22:03, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hong Kong and Macau edit

Why are Hong Kong and Macau included in a list about countries when they A. are not sovereign or constituent countries B. they’re not countries, they’re cities and special administrative regions of China C. someone should rename the title to List of Countries and Territories in Asia. Gatorbearratica (talk) 15:38, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Stop Removing Russia. edit

Russia is a part of Asia and Europe, it is transcontinental. I gave multiple sources describing it as such, a simple search online proves it as well, 77% of Russia is in Asia, and 23% of it is in Eurasia/Europe. Further removals will result in me telling an administrator. Egypticcc (talk) 17:21, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Agree that Russia should be on the list. But should its figures include only the Asian parts?
There are many countries that span more than one region. The US is in both North America and Oceania (via Hawaii and territories). But it would not make much sense to include 330 million Americans in the Oceania list. Similar issues exist for Turkey, Indonesia and France. These countries all have integral areas in multiple continents.
This seems to be an issue on the Europe article as well, so general comments about how to handle all these edge cases would be appreciated. Wizmut (talk) 07:22, 18 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Complete update edit

I went over every figure and made sure it was up to date with a valid source. I removed two columns (absolute growth and doubling time) and added a column to note Population in Asia. Hopefully this column can settle any questions about whether a given country is in Asia, as this underscores and indeed measures how a country can be partially in a continent.

Calculating this figure can be a little laborious, but I hope it can remain updated. I linked the sources I used. In general, I was more inclusive, but the margin for error is small enough so that the "percent of Asia" column should be very accurate.

When deciding among multiple official numbers, I decided to go by publication of estimate, rather than pretend that population clocks are always up to date. I don't really like the common practice of labeling a population clock figure as representing "today's number". In all cases, they are simply two old numbers multiplied together, so only the date that the numbers were derived should count. Even worse, in some cases the government site that originally hosted the clock is offline, so the number is not even officially maintained. Wizmut (talk) 07:55, 16 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Transcontinental countries edit

This list includes all transcontinental countries with people living in Asia. Continental boundaries are not always defined by the countries in and around those continents.

For example, Egypt belongs on both the Asia and Africa lists because it contains territory in both continents.

181.203.106.33, if you see this please do not remove any more countries without explaining on the talk page here why this must be done. Wizmut (talk) 05:39, 8 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
