Episode airdates edit

To Xeworlebi,

I would like to explain my changes to the Aladdin episode airdates. I got the dates from this 1999 thread from the Usenet group alt.fan.disney-afternoon, available here: [REQ] Aladdin Episode List [NOTE: Click on "show quoted text" in the second message to see the airdates I used for season 1.]

The person who compiled these airdates is Christopher Barat, a Disney aficionado whose research has determined the correct airdates for DuckTales, Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers, and TaleSpin - Barat's dates are the ones currently used on those series' respective Wikipedia episode lists.

Since Barat was keeping track of the airdates when the series was originally being broadcast, I believe that his dates hold more weight than the current dates, which assume that all new episodes aired on consecutive dates, uninterrupted. This is not how new episodes were aired on The Disney Afternoon - they were staggered out over a long period of time, September-May or September-February, beginning with several uninterrupted weeks of new episodes, then new episodes mixed with repeats to late November or thereabouts, then only repeats until sweeps periods in February, when more new episodes would be shown. (In the cases of earlier series like Darkwing Duck and Goof Troop, a third batch of new episodes would be held back until May, again to coincide with sweeps.)

Also, the air order circulated on Usenet back in the 1990s, relatively soon after the series had aired, listed "Poor Iago" and "Snowman Is an Island" in exact opposite positions from where they are listed in more recent sources; Barat's dates for those episodes also show "Poor Iago" airing before "Snowman Is an Island."

The more recent orders/dates, the ones I am arguing to be erroneous, are most often sourced from sites like epguides.com and TV.com, which often work from undated episode lists, and use conjecture to date the episodes. Sometimes, they will use orders that are based on syndicated rerun packages (such as with Adventures of the Gummi Bears, for which I similarly researched and corrected the order and dates), or orders that are simply inaccurate. They will then simply give them consecutive airdates starting with the documented premiere date, assuming that there were no reruns aired in between.

Weekday afternoon children's programming of the 1990's did not usually work that way - instead, new episodes would more often be staggered out over longer periods of time to boost ratings, with new episodes often being debuted during sweeps, and being promoted to get more people to watch.

In short, my research has led me to the conclusion that the order and dates compiled by Chris Barat are more accurate than those currently listed on Wikipedia, and I ask Xeworlebi and the other editors to allow me to reapply my edits which were previously reverted. --Jeffrey Gray --99.167.195.150 (talk) 15:45, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I was going to make my own discussion about the airdates, but I see that this has already been discussed. But recently (how recent you can see by my sig) an anon is altering the entire page declaring that the entire 86 episode series aired in 1994 using IMDB and TV.com as sources. You must remember that although two sites giving the same airdates may be a justifiable reason to back-up your claims, but these are also sites that anyone can contribute to and maybe have even been copied from one another or from one to another so they can't really be trusted. Even I'm not clearly sure, but the series didn't officially air until fall of 1994 and giving the mandate of 65 episodes Disney would have had to wait to see if it would of been popular enough to order more episodes which could only have happened until after 1994. -- Anythingspossibleforapossible (talk) 03:12, 24 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps this link is more reliable: http://originalairdates.com/show/2528/ Deltasim (talk) 18:45, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I thought I fixed all the airdates on IMDB to correspond to my research, but between then and now, someone changed them back to the erroneous dates on TV.com and elsewhere, which say that all of Season 1 aired in September-December 1994, instead of being spaced out into 1995. TV.com is frequently wrong, and I cringe any time someone "corrects" me using them as "evidence." --TServo2050 (talk) 21:28, 14 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Production Codes edit

I would like to bring up that there seems to be a lack of production codes for this series. I am only saying so since if you watch the episodes by order of airdate or by episode number, then there will be problems such as Uncouthma getting married first and then seeing his first meeting with Aladdin, as well as their second encounter with Phasir happening long before meeting him for the first time.

The best way I know about the true order is from the fansite Aladdin Central which has the transcripts for each episode in a different order than the ones given on here (http://www.aladdincentral.org/transcripts/).
