Notable alumni

A lot of names have appeared on the listing of notable alumni without evidence that they belong there, either in the form of a Wikipedia article (the blue-linked names are okay) or some appropriate reference. I've just added "citation needed" tags to those in that second group. "Craig Stevens" is a special case. There is a professional football player by that name, but he went to school in California. Mascot

Changes need to be undone

Content dispute

There appears to a dispute between Drumlinehoss (talk · contribs) and Jayebook (talk · contribs) of the title and content of the article. Per WP:PREFER I have reverted the page content and the title to the version closest to resembling what the page looked like pre-November 2009, before the dispute began. I do not know much about the school but I have been informed that there were two Lincoln High School's - one during segregation, and one today. Could I have some information from both parties on what they want to be done? Based on what I have heard I see two options: (a) Add more information about the old Lincoln High School to the current article, or (b) Create a separate new page about the old Lincoln High School at another title e.g. Old Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Florida). Okay, here's my thing. During segregation, Lincoln High School was for the black people of Tallahassee. The school board opened a new school with a different mascot. It is very unfair to me and folk that graduated from Segregated Lincoln High to not have their information available. to prove my point, I added photos to ensure my information is true. If another title can be given, I would prefer it to include the word TIGERS. Because in 1950's it was known as Lincoln High not Old Lincoln, so I would appreciate if it had two different pages and the other page can include the mascot Tigers. Thats all, because if both cant be available then why should the new one have availibility??? Thanks. Please get back with me, its only right. The original school you are referring to appears to mentioned in the history section of the existing article. It doesn't mention that the original mascot was the tigers, though that can be added. I am rather confused that if Lincoln High Tigers of Florida is about closed school, then why is it written in the present tense? "Lincoln High School is a high school located in Tallahassee, Florida, U.S.A." As it stands the Lincoln High Tigers of Florida and Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Florida) pages seem to be competing versions of the same topic. If both schools were on the same site then one article on both schools may be more appropriate. This may be achievable by simply merging the content of Lincoln High Tigers of Florida into Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Florida).

If a page on both schools is really desired then the official name of the school is usually used as the title. The mascots are usually not part of the official title so including them is probably not appropriate. If both schools were officially called Lincoln High School, then some kind of disambiguation has to be added to the title; this is usually location but that won't work here. Another idea would be that details about the old school could be added to a page like History of Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Florida), with a link from the Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Florida) page. Hello, I was the one who changed the Lincoln High Article to the way it currently is. There ARE NOT two Lincoln High Schools. There is the current Lincoln High School (which this article represents) and the HISTORIC Lincoln, which IS NO LONGER A SCHOOL. The user Jayebook made the mistake of combining the two schools on one page. This was a mistake as both schools are completely separate entities. There should be one page for the current school and one for the historic school. If you take a look at the article as it was a year a go, you can see it is correct now.

I suggest that there be a "Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, FL)" Page and then a separate "Historic Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, FL)" Page.

There is already a page on for the historic Lincoln. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_High_Tigers_of_Florida Just add info to that one about the historic school and keep the article "Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, FL)" About the current school. I also suggest that a link to the Historic Lincoln Article be added to the history section of the current Lincoln page.

Well based on the comments of Jayebook above both of you want two separate entries for both schools, so it looks like we can easily reach agreement here. Since both high schools had the same name, based on what I know, the sticking point is the title of both articles. The school district seem to refer to it as "Old Lincoln High School" so "Old Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Florida)" may be appropriate source. "Historic" may also work. A perhaps more formal alternative could be just the years the school was open i.e. "1876-1970 Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Florida)". Camaron · Christopher · talk 18:14, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

I came here due to the notice Camaron posted at WikiProject Schools.

After reading the two articles, I agree that both the historical segregation era school and the modern Lincoln High School need to be covered. Although the current school is not a direct continuation of the historical school, because they share a name, the historical school is part of the heritage of the modern school. Accordingly, one appropriate solution would be to divide the "History" section of this article into subsections called "Old Lincoln High School" and "New Lincoln High School." The "Old" section likely would be longer than the new one, due to the 100-year history of that school, and it would include all available details of interest about that school (such as the school's mascot) that would not normally be covered in the "History" section of a school article.

If people are more comfortable with two articles, the article about the historical school could be called "Old Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Florida)". (If that is chosen, there probably should be a defaultsort setting to force it to appear under "Lincoln" in Wikipedia categories.) Since the old high school building is identified at the Riley Museum website as "Lincoln Academy (Lincoln High School)", I think "Lincoln Academy (Tallahassee, Florida)" also would be a good choice for the title of that article. --Orlady (talk) 22:49, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Following comments here and elsewhere it appears there is consensus to keep Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Florida) at its current title. What to do with Lincoln High Tigers of Florida however is less clear. There are two main proposals:

1. Move it to "Lincoln Academy (Tallahassee, Florida)"
2. Move it to "Old Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Florida)"

Okay, per unanimity here I have moved the page on the older school to Old Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Florida). I am leaving both pages move locked for a further 3 months to prevent further moves without a new consensus being properly formed first. Notable alumni 2

There needs to be a showing, of some sort, that the listed alumni are actually notable, as well as a showing that they attended Lincoln HS. Those with functional wiki links (blue-lined names) are okay, as the article should handle both issues. Those with red-lined names need justification, or they need to be deleted. User Jayebook seems to have forgotten the decision that was reached previously regarding the differences between Lincoln High School and the Old Lincoln High School. As can be seen clearly at the top of the article, this page is not to be confused with the "Old Lincoln High School".
