Island/Iceland edit

I always thought the song was titled "Island", but according to the mastodon official website, the song is "Iceland", and the lyrics reflect this. I checked some other sources (Amazon for one) and some list it as Island. Is this just a massive error? For now, I'm gong to edit it to reflect the official website.LtCrumpet (talk) 16:50, 15 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would really appreciate it if people would actually check the OFFICIAL MASTODON WEBSITE before reverting my edits. LtCrumpet (talk) 18:20, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that. I never thought to look on their website since I own the CD and both the back cover and the booklet state the song name as Ísland. Which brings us to the question: what now? Both the CD and the Mastodon website would seem to be authoritative sources. -- Felix C. Stegerman (talk) 18:57, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

It seems to me that the website would me more accurate, simply due to the fact that it can be updated to correct misprints or changes, whereas the CD booklet cannot. Maybe put up "Island/Iceland"? I'll see if I can get ahold of Mastodon themselves, but dont count on a message from them. LtCrumpet (talk) 21:24, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Update: looking through the lyrics, I'm more inclined to think "Iceland", and heres why: 1: "Ill stay in the lava for life....Mountains and burn" - Iceland is volcanic 2: "Hail the people of Iceland" - pretty self explanitory 3: "Journey of a land anew" - Iceland was found by Norse explorers 4: "Raw beauty...Golden Ring" - Iceland is a rough and volcanic island 5: "Prescision of Grungir...Founder of the allthing" - Norse mythology. as noted above, Iceland was discovered by Norsemen. 6: "Ruler of skies thunder...Beware hammer of Thor" - More Norse mythology

And I rest my case. LtCrumpet (talk) 21:52, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Update #2: It seems that Ísland (with the accent) is the Icelandic for Iceland. So I guess Ísland is more correct that Iceland which is more correc than Island. I'm sorry I blew this up, I should have done more research initially. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LtCrumpet (talkcontribs) 22:01, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

No problem. You were certainly right to point out that the Mastodon website uses "Iceland". But I assume we're now in agreement that (unless Mastodon tells us otherwise) the correct name is "Ísland"? -- Felix C. Stegerman (talk) 18:04, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think sticking with Ísland at this point would be appropriate. After all, the listing of "Iceland" on the website is correct, just in the wrong language. LtCrumpet (talk) 17:36, 10 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Should the internet meme featuring the lyrics from "Blood and Thunder" be mentioned as a pop culture reference? 194.84.166.242 (talk) 10:36, 3 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
