Dates and bad information

I have changed the dates that were wrong (or at least the ones I knew better about), the fact the Lefty NEVER broke Omerta, and a few other little discrepancies in this article.

Movies are not acceptable references in a Wiki article

Removed the following sentences: "It is stated by his character in the film Donnie Brasco, that when Joseph Pistone first met Ruggerio he had served thirty years in La Cosa Nostra, which means that he had most likely been a member of the Bonnano crime family, one of the Five Families of New York City, since 1946."

"In the Donnie Brasco film his character claims that he has murdered twenty-six people from 1946 to 1975, when he first met Joseph D. Pistone when working as a contract killer. I have to request anybody who knows anything about the Mob to either verify or contradict that second sentence that this guy says should be deleted, and probably should be deleted. In the mob, when they order a hit, they call it a contract. Regardless that its the mafia, use of the word contract implies theres a payment. Mob guys are criminals; They do illegal acts for money. They also know they're criminals, and they live with the fear of getting killed or getting pinched. I seriously doubt its a custom for Mob guys to do any hits for free. If the boss wants somebody gone, likely the boss will pay a guy to do the hit. Plus this guy's statement is worded in a way which implies the opposite: the Mob is going to pay for hits they do NOT sanction? So why would they NOT pay for hits they DO sanction? It makes no sense. Mob guys are loose, friendly jovial guys who get stone cold when something threatens their ability to earn. They kill when they have to, but they dont want to kill, unless they absolutely have to. Every murder is a possible future pinch by law enforcement. Paid or not paid, Mob guys dont run around looking for unsanctioned hits to perform. Formatting edits

I have made a bunch of edits today;

• "aka" is an acronym that will not be understood by all readers -- it should be spelled out. See WP:MOS
• His collection of nicknames need not be put in bold font -- this just adds to the clutter of the opening paragraph without adding to the meaning
• Donnie Brasco redirects to Joseph D. Pistone -- there is no need to link the same article twice int he same sentence, and in fact, WP:OVERLINK will tell you not to do it.
• Similarly, there usually isn't a need to link to the smae article twice in the same article, unless it is a long article.
• Dates are no longer linked unless there is a really good reason for linking them -- see MOS:SYL
• There is no need to link plain English words -- this is not what linking is for. See WP:OVERLINK
• FBI agent is a redirect to Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is already linked.

Asked to promote film

It seems unlikely. He died in 1994. The movie was filmed between Feb and May 1996 (IMDB).

Friendship with Mirra

I don't remember it being mentioned in the book, and it isn't mentioned in any of the source links given.

Ruggiero asked to promote the film?

I removed the following line, under "in popular culture": "The movie producers reportedly offered Ruggiero a million dollars if he would help promote the film, but Ruggiero refused the offer." - It seems unlikely, that he was asked to promote the movie Donnie Brasco, as Ruggiero died 2 years before they even startet filming the movie.
