I don't think it reads like a 'personal advertisement' at all, just a standard career etc. summary of a distinguished scientist. (Of course, it could be that the contents have changed materially since your comment over a decade ago!) If there remains anything in particular you feel smacks of peacockery, feel free to edit. Photo?

Doctorate

I've reworded the reference to Dr Peltonen-Palotie's doctorate. It used to say Doctor of Science, which seems unlikely in the field of medicine. One of the sources quoted includes her bio, which mentions PhD. Meanwhile, the Finnish lääketieteen tohtori (lit.: doctor of medicine) degree is slightly different from the US (etc.) MD, in that it includes a full doctoral thesis; I gather this would in the USA then be called just that, ie. 'MD with thesis'. Because of this uncertainty, I've ambiguated the text to refer to her 'doctorate'. If anyone knows with certainty which degree she was awarded as a result of this, and what specifically that translates to in English (and I believe only the University of Oulu can comment on either of those authoritatively), please feel free to amend.
