Name

I suggest that the article be moved to "Women's National League (Ireland)" or something similar, as the new league seems to be called the "Women's National League". Hohenloh ⁺ 18:46, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

Personally I would recommend the bracketed option. There are several leagues of the same name in different countries and it is unlikely that when people search for it they will put 'Irish' at the beginning. You can of course set up the redirect for 'Irish Women's National League' to the page, just in case. Bray gone?

Bray seems to have decided not to start in this league due to lack of good players in the region: 1 2
"Originally it was supposed to be 2 'Dublin' teams,that was changed to 4 and there simply isn't enough good players for 4 'Dublin' teams so the club have pulled the plug on it.Not a good start for the league 3 weeks before the kick off.Only 6 teams now."

WNL Cup

There seems to be a mix up here between the Women's FAI Cup and Women's League Cup - The League Cup fina; is not played at Lansdowne Road/Aviva Stadium and Cork won the WFAI cup last year, rather than the League Cup. • Oppose. Recommend waiting a while. At least until closer to the start of the 2023 seasons. Or, perhaps, until (a) the WP:OFFICIALNAMEs become the WP:COMMONNAMEs, (b) it is clear what WP:RECENT events mean for the ~40 year history of all three leagues (c) enough time has passed for WP:NAMECHANGES to be assessed (such that we know whether "reliable sources written after the change is announced routinely use the new name") and (d) other issues that may yet arise (as yet unforeseen, both IRL and on the project) have bottomed-out. Otherwise we risk "renaming" Wikipedia articles before, for example, the association/leagues' own web presences have caught up with that press release. As per COMMONNAME and NAMECHANGES, Wikipedia should reflect name changes/adoption. Not, in effect, preempt them. After all, there's no mad rush.... Guliolopez (talk) 16:56, 11 December 2022 (UTC)

• Oppose This renaming proposal contradicts the reality of the available sources. Nowhere is there any mention of this title. The practice of football is "male" by default. Only the mention of "women's" differentiates the two competitions. It is true that the world of football may be considered by some to be backward-looking compared to handball or volleyball, for example, but the encyclopaedia that is Wikipedia is not intended to be ahead of the sources. We can only reflect what the sources say. Wikipedia does not have to be innovative in this respect. Matpib (talk) 13:15, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
