Merge with Spencer tornado edit

It was the same system and there were still tornadoes embedded in the derecho. The Spencer tornado should be given a significant section in this article. CrazyC83 16:47, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Maybe we should keep them separate, for the sake of the categories. —BazookaJoe 00:39, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Difficult decision indeed. I believe there is also a separate page for the May 31 tornado outbreak in the Northeast (after the derecho). Personally I think all of them should be together (a rare 3-page merge), but there will be disagreement. CrazyC83 04:20, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, what would we call it? Any title that could describe all 3 events in one would take away from the importance of each event. In this particular case, I think we should keep them as separate articles because of the exceptional severity of 2 of the 3 events; each should get its individual recognition. —BazookaJoe 22:47, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
May 1998 northern United States storm complex (or something to that effect)? Covers all the bases, but is a tremendously cumbersome name.
As a side note, any chance there is enough info to support a main article for the storm complex, with a sub-article for the spencer tornado and the derecho event? -Runningonbrains 17:27, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
That might work. This is a really unusual situation here - 2 outbreaks bridged by a derecho... CrazyC83 23:55, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
No. I think its a completely different topic. The Spencer Tornado has its recognition..and the NY Derecho has its own as well. No need to bind them..JHomenuk5690 20:05, 10 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. Probably best to keep them separate. Badbilltucker 21:09, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I would have to review the radar/satellite data or maybe just reports, but the Mechanicsville tornadoes were probably directly resultant from the storm while in a derecho mode. Unless enough information is written on it, it should be merged with the derecho article. Derechos and tornado outbreaks are often intertwined, the most potent derechos have a tendency to begin as supercells and derechos themselves produce tornadoes, sometimes a significant event in itself. This is why I link back and forth between them. They are meteorologically distinct phenomena though, so there are certain challenges. In the case of the Spencer outbreak, it was significant and distinct enough, and there is enough information available that I support expanding a section in the main article which links to an expanded Spencer Tornado Outbreak article. You're right, and this article should be the base used for any merges as it is the most developed of them. Many derechos also lead into, follow or extend tornado outbreaks, and I often consider them together. This is a rare case of one being bookended by outbreaks. All the information I have suggest they were all connected (it was definitely the same system). CrazyC83 18:58, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Old page edit

Someone did not move the talk page when the main page was moved; the following text still existed there. -RunningOnBrains 06:25, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I went through here and corrected some punctuation errors. It seems like there are a lot of really long sentences in here. Maybe someone could try to break those up a little bit. HusikaSN 17:00, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Article move and cleanup

The author(s) are greatly overusing the word "derecho" and don't seem to understand its definition, which is Something Straight, As Opposed To Twisted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BigSmiler (talkcontribs) 16:28, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'll expand and cleanup the article within a week or so when I get time. As for the move, I vote to keep it separate from the Great Lakes derecho article. Evolauxia 14:22, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Name edit

I moved "Late-May 1998 Tornado Outbreak and Derecho" to "Late-May 1998 tornado outbreak and derecho" to comply with IAW Wikipedia:Naming conventions (events). --Rosiestep (talk) 23:27, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Adding categories-Tornadoes in NH, PA, IN, KY, VT and Canada edit

These places also had confirmed tornadoes, so whoever deletes those categories whenever I add them, please stop. I think this is a legitimate edit.--Kevjgav (talk) 19:15, 3 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
