Largest salt water lake in the southern hemisphere

Lake Macquarie isn't even the largest saltwater lake in Australia (Lake Eyre is much bigger when full), so how can it be the "largest salt water lake in the southern hemisphere"? As far as I know it is the largest coastal saltwater lake in Australia and may be the largest Coastal saltwater lake in the Southern Hemisphere, but it is not the largest saltwater lake. 124.187.183.192 (talk) 23:34, 18 May 2009 (UTC) Swampy

A quick Google search reveals numerous references claiming that Lake Macquarie is the largest saltwater lake in the southern hemisphere.[1] Lake Eyre only fills 3 or 4 times a century and empties very quickly whereas Lake Macquarie is permanent. Port Stephens is actually larger, but it's classed as a harbour, not a lake. I'll add "permanent" to the article for clarification. --AussieLegend (talk) 23:53, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Pulbah Island

Pulbah Island was recently created but I've just redirected it back to the appropriate section in this article for numerous reasons. The article is uncited and the subject just isn't notable enough to warrant its own article. There's no reason why it shouldn't remain here, which isn't large (12kB) and it makes sense to keep it here so readers don't have to go looking for information on the island elsewhere. The island is part of the geography of the lake so should be mentioned as more than just a wikilink, which would mean that the two articles substantially duplicate each other. --AussieLegend (talk) 03:49, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Pollution

When I was in Toronto NSW some years ago a local told me that the bed of Lake Macquarie was heavily polluted with sediments deposited from upstream mining, and the locals knew to avoid disturbing these sediments. Seems legit. Would most likely be due to the Pasminco lead and zinc smelter at Boolaroo though.
