Kobe redirect edit

I think that "Kobe" should redirect to this page rather than the city in Japan. Many people who search for "Kobe" are looking for the basketball player rather than the Japanese city. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NBA Fan7 (talkcontribs) 22:58, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

No, just as Paris should direct to Paris, France with a disambiguation link at the top. People searching for Paris Hilton will just have to click a bit further. Kobe is a city of 1.5 million and existed long before the celebrity of Kobe Bryant and will exist long after him. 85.24.189.194 (talk) 12:13, 11 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

– When it comes to searching for the single term “Kobe”, Kobe Bryant has enough prominence and traffic that the city in Japan is not a clear unilateral primary topic. The new “Kobe” page would have the city in Japan and Kobe Bryant as two main topics, with further disambiguations in subsections below. Mrbeastmodeallday (talk) 17:42, 27 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Support per nom - no clear primary topic. Paintspot Infez (talk) 22:10, 27 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose The fifth biggest city in Japan has probably more immediate prominence and definitely more long-term significance than a recently retired basketball player, who's also commonly enough known by his full name Kobe Bryant. – Uanfala (talk) 09:08, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose, for much the same reason as Uanfala. The basketballer is a partial title match. olderwiser 09:20, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Per above. Not a full match and not a long-term stable position. Britishfinance (talk) 15:11, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose ridiculous. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:01, 29 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per above. Julia 22:28, 29 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose Too many items having similar name. Disambiguation is still fine. Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 03:18, 2 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per WP:PILEON. —  AjaxSmack  01:58, 4 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Weak oppose per PT#2 noting that (from England) I do get the city first (but Bryant also shows up) on Google. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:18, 4 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
