Covenanter-opposing Douglas owner edit

By accident I've come across what may indicate an error in the - multiple and reliably-sourced - references to Knockdavie's ownership by a Covenanter-opposing Douglas in the 17th century. There was evidently an execution of a covenanter on a hill called Knockdavie in Kircudbrightshire, by a "Lieutenant General James Douglas, Brother to the Duke of Queensberry".^[1]^[2]^[3] This may be the Douglas mentioned in the appendix of The Scots Worthies, seems quite a coincidence and may indicate a conflation of the two Knockdavies, quite possibly further facilitated by the Fife Knockdavie being in the possession of another Douglas - Douglases held nearby Aberdour Castle for instance.

The OS name book would indicate its existence but, though its position is indicated, I've so far failed to locate the Kirkcudbright Knockdavie on either the 19th century OS map, or modern ones. Mutt Lunker (talk) 22:38, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
