Fictious family member listed

The part about his siblings was discombobulated as it previously appeared, "He has two older siblings: brother William "Billy" Ritchie; and sister Carol Ritchie. His younger sister Jill Ritchie is an actress, and a younger brother Charles Champion Ritchie twice removed", especially the last bit about supposed brother Charles being twice removed. A cousin can be "twice removed" but a brother? It seems like that was added as a joke particularly since I could find plenty of info online about his other siblings but "Charles" is mentioned nowhere. He doesn't appear to even exist.

http://www.purevolume.com/kidrock which self-describes as "Excerpted and Adapted from Rolling Stone Cover Story Kid Rock's Cure For Heartbreak By Austin Scaggs Issue 1037, October 18, 2007" contained the following information that Kid Rock only has three siblings Billy, Carol and Jill. There is no Charles: "Bobby was the third of four children: older sister Carol handles Rocks books; his straight-laced younger sister, Jill, is an actress (she played Charisma in Herbie Fully Loaded) who lives in Los Angeles; Rocks older brother, Billy, who lost his right leg at age six in a tractor accident, has struggled with drug addictions and is now studying to be a yoga instructor."

His genre of music is rap, rock and maybe country rock. Southern rock and country rock; rap rock & rap metal are pretty much the same. A casual person without much knowledge on the subject may be misled to thinking that he has made considerable in like 6 genres. This guy is a big-time Republican right-winger who seems to think that we should attack the rest of the world, which is pretty extraordinary for a rocker, and yet there is no mention made here. User:Mythic Writerlord added the reference to Kid Rock's Daughter. I'm not sure as to the reliability of Mediacourant.nl, and also not sure of the exact translation. It doesn't appear that she claims Kid Rock is the father, it seems to me that she is mentioning her current boyfriend. Furthermore, I was unable to find an english reference to his supposed daughter. The following in Section 5.4 is wildly biased: "After a white man gunned down nine black church members in Charleston,SC the confederate flag came under attack. The shooter draped himself in the rebel flag before the shooting.The NAN and NAACP went after anyone assiociated with the flag.In July of 2015 Al Sharpton's NAN Chapter of Detroit went after Kid Rock.Stating either he stop using and denounce the flag.Kid Rock responded to Fox News in an email to Megyn Kelly.She read his response out loud which said "Please tell the people that are protesting me, that the can kiss my ass". Changes to the article

Edits to the article by TheRealBoognish (talk · contribs), I believe have strayed from the template of WP:BLP articles and how they normally look. Some of the content changes, such as the edits to the lede, as well as removing a lot of the controversies associated with the article's subject seem detrimental.

  • The "Career" section should not be so expansive for an artist who hasn't provided much cultural influence.
  • The "Biography" section should be changed to "Early Life" and cover his upbringing and be separate from current personal affairs or career moves.
  • The "Personal Life" section should stay intact and list all noteworthy events regarding the subject that have been reported on, such as his legal troubles, and political views.

I, however largely went with most of the edits and kept them intact, but due to their incomplete nature of them I attempted to condense the excessive "Career" section by combining stray sentences and removing non-notable statements, along with the other things I mentioned. Some statements were weirdly worded, which I also changed. Looking for input on this. -- Gokunks (Speak to me) 01:14, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

  • I kept the personal life section after the initial conflict. I also added back a couple poinys I thought were trivial (the sex tape and the Romney campaign theme). The main issue with what to keep as I rewote the article was whether it seemed encyclopedic. I tried to only remove trivia. I did not make any controversial changes to the article. I am trying to keep things civilized here but it is difficult to protect the integrity of the article when people come in and treat it like a fan page and try to include every minute detail of his life. As I researched the subject, I considered articles about performances and collaborations and whether the material was encyclopedic enough or if the source was reluable. I decided against some materjal only backed by PR statements. I don't understand why the lead was written how it was originally so I rewote it to properly summarize the contents and sound less like a PR firm with the mention of the multiatinum sales of Devil Without a Cause. Regarding the suggestions:

  • I agree about changing the section name from "Biography" to "early life".
  • The Career section is not too long. Your view of his "influence" is an opinion, and there is no rule that an article has to be shorter or longer based on his "influence". The length was based on the amount of encyclopedic information I could find in research, not opinions about the subject.
  • I restored the "personal life" section. I took out the sub-sections because the linear approach looks better and many of the political activity parts were unsourced. Previous edits removed sourced information about his political views such as the Reason sourced bits on his liberal social views and the citations for his libertarianism. I initially considered not including the information on his political views if it couldn't be written encyclopedically (and therefore fell under trivia) but kept it eventually because it explains why he is categorized as a Republican and a libertarian. Of the unsourced content taken out, the only one that is noticeably not visible was the filmography section which had a tag on it saying it was unsourced. I addef bits on Joe Dirt and Osmosis Jones to the career section because they had significant coverage. I didn't discuss his appearances in Larry the Cable Guy movies because the only sources I could find were press releases. The filmography therefore came across as trivia. Also, I feel Twisted Brown Trucker not only may need its own article, given the length of this one and unresearched infornation on the band members, but there needs to be sources for the band lineup. I'd like to point out that I did not remove any of his reliably sourced political activities. The Warrior video and comments on Confederate flag, NFL, etc. was moved to his career section, the activities not related to his music career were moved to the personal life section. The Sean Penn video Americans was sourced only to YouTube, and thus not reliably sourced. If you wanted that back in, you should have found a reliable source instead of edit warring. I couldn't find a source outside of YouTube; coverage should be significant, otherwise it's trivia. TheRealBoognish (talk) 03:40, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

@TheRealBoognish: I definetely think "Artistry" should be re-titled to "Musical style and influences," as that is more common on articles. The "personal life" section needs to be moved back to the bottom and re-adding the subsections again. Take all of the controversies out of the career section. That section should only relate to his success or non-success as an artist, as it were. Many of his controversies are not career related and instead out of his personal beliefs, thus why they should go into the "Personal Life" section under a subheading. -- Gokunks (Speak to me) 23:56, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
User:R9tgokunks The stuff about the Confederate flag is related to his stage presence, not his personal beliefs, and the NFL part happened on stage. If you take it out of the career section, it loses context and becomes trivia. The article on Queen (band) has the section explaining their music as "artistry". "Style and influences" doesn't make much sense when it's hard to find reliable sources on his influences. Maybe the header "Career" could be removed? User:R9tgokunks the parts about the band could be trimmed since there is a separate article for Twisted Brown Trucker, but the parts specifically about him such as the interactions with other Detroit artists and the animosity towards Insane Clown Posse should not be deleted. Could you clarify which specific paragraphs you believe should be removed so we can discuss them? Also, "pre-success" is misleading, since it's indicated by the sources that his first album Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast had some success--even the ICP book Behind the Paint, written by someone who dislikes Kid Rock's music, says the album was at least moderately successful. Also, User:R9tgokunks, there's not a rule that says a biography has to be based on the subject's "influence", which is subjective, and also I proposed quoting the Cowboys and Indians magazine article which theorizes that Kid Rock was influential on country music. Influence

The Cowboys & Indians article alleges the rapping style on "Cowboy" having a massive influence on several country singers but I haven't found yet firsthand admission from the artists cited so I left it out. However, maybe it could be noted by saying that the magazine cited these artists as being influenced by Kid Rock, and not saying definitively that they were until reliably sourced firsthand reportings if them saying they were influenced can be cited.

There was an article on rapper MURS saying he'd like to work with Kid Rock that I came across while researching this article. I didn't add it because it was trivial.

WhoSampled also reports a Tech N9ne song as reinterpolating the chorus of Kid Rock's "Forever", but I also saw this as trivial and the source is fan edited, although the edits are approved by a staff. TheRealBoognish (talk) 02:08, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Two editors, including myself and gokuks, agree that the Biography section should be changed to "Early life".

I also suggest the following addition to the "artistry" section:

Cowboys & Indians claims that Kid Rock's song "Cowboy" had a major impact on the country music scene; the magazine alleges that artists Jason Aldean and Big & Rich, among others, were influenced by the song's country rap style.[2]

User:R9tgokunks, I wanted to go through some of the problems I had with your revision, as follows:

  • Personal life: The splitting of his relationships, legal troubles and politics doesn't feel encyclopedic. It makes it feel like trivia. Like, "here's all the things you might not know about your favorite rock star!" No legitimate biography I've ever read is formatted like this.
  • It's not important to Ritchie's life for readers to know that Anderson miscarried while filming the movie Blond and Blonder. That doesn't provide readers any understanding of Kid Rock. It's relevant to that movie and to Anderson, but here it has no relevance.
  • "The divorce was allegedly over a disagreement of Rock's Detroit residence and Anderson's Los Angeles residence" is unsourced.
  • " It has been suggested that his no-show at the Download Festival 2008 was due to depression over the divorce" - this is cited, but it is speculation. Shouldn't be included. It's kind of like, while writing a biography of Albert Einstein, stating "Einstein MIGHT have been autistic". What evidence is there that Ritchie was depressed? I would have merged it into the career section, but overall it reads as trivia: "Kid Rock was scheduled to perform. He didn't." Doesn't seem encyclopedic.
  • "Other news reports suggested, however, that Kid Rock's outrage during a screening of Borat, in which Anderson cameos, was the divorce motive" -- Again, this is speculation. Shouldn't be included. Not encyclopedic.
  • "On July 6, 2011, Kid Rock appeared on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight show where he said he has no regrets about anything he has done in the past." -- unsourced.
  • The sex tape doesn't need its own section. It's a one-note part of his life, and I moved the part about the lawsuit against the company to the career section.
  • Political beliefs: You deleted sources for Kid Rock being a libertarian. You also deleted a cited statement from Ritchie on him having liberal views on abortion and gay marriage.
  • "As of 2017, Kid Rock has been known to make numerous overtly political speeches at many of his tour dates, particularly making transphobic comments at many occasions." POV statement. Queen has an Artistry section. Other music biography articles have this section named "Musical style and influences". I've seen no evidence either is preferable.

Nu metal keeps getting added and removed and the sources refer to Devil Without a Cause, not Kid Rock in general. And regarding that album, this profile on the era states:

Heavy Metal? Nu Metal?

I've grown up with classic, hard, and alternative rock music. As I do appreciate the knowledge being shared within this page. I have a complaint. In no way shape or form has kid rock ever created, performed, or written heavy metal or nu metal. In my opinion. If kid rock can be considered heavy/nu metal. Bands like glass casket, amen amarth, or findlands korpiklani can also be considered as classical music. Which makes zero sense and why I made that analogy. Infusing hip hop and country is not in any way "metal". Just because one has an electric guitar doesn't make it metal. If that's the case there are many jazz and Ska bands that could also be placed in the metal category. I'm not saying he's a rhinestone cowboy who grew up in the concrete jungle. What I am saying is his music, which I rather enjoy mind you, is far from any source of metal. I would rather accept MGK's new genre as metal than to fathom the thought of an artist who created their name based off of their own cultural and political views as "metal". Keep in mind. I'm no music officianado,, but I've been around long enough to understand that jazz influenced the creation of what we know as heavy metal. Not rap. Not hip hop. Not country. The solemn lyrics, the fast and slow traditions, the use of fast paced 16ths, as well as the vocal influence. Heavy metal and Nu metal is a lot of things. The sources cited allege the video was a response to the spokesperson, while the actual video does not. The video mentions Anheuser-Busch but not the spokesperson. There is significant context missing in the video, and the reporting in the sources cited does not provide evidence backing up the conclusion that the video is a response to the spokesperson. This is an assumption. It's similar to the assumption that the Zachary Levi tweet about Pfizer was an anti-vaccine message even though it was not explicitly stated to be so. Also, I don't know how people can watch a video that's freely available on Instagram and see that no mention of Mulvaney was made in the video, and still listen to biased legacy media reporting when they tell you something that's not backed up by the video they're reporting on. Objectively, no one really knows what his objection to Anheuser-Busch is, considering that he hasn't explicitly said that it was a criticism of the ad campaign. I had rewritten the sentence to the more neutral "it was suggested that the video was in response to" and it was reverted. I don't understand the thought process in repeating, without question, claims made in the media without evidence, and refusing to do no investigation and just repeating the claims that haven't been vetted. The reporting on that video is some of the most blatantly biased I've ever seen, thoroughly demonstrating that many media outlets do not do any investigation, and simply report unverified claims often originated by complete randos on social media. Again, RS coverage and simple inferencing clearly indicate that this was a response towards the Mulvaney advert. Just because he didn't explicitly say it doesn't mean that it cannot be inferred, especially when multiple RS sources interpret it as such (as we look for on this site). Now their are certain issues with this doctrine, but in this case, it's pretty much a forgone conclusion that if the whole Mulvaney situation never occurred, this whole stunt would not exist. Besides, the current wording doesn't even explicitly label it as a hit towards Mulvaney; it describes it more as a criticism of Bud Light and Anheuser-Busch themselves. - Knightsoftheswords281 (Talk-Contribs) 06:07, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
Then wouldn't this be speculation since the sources cited did not reach out to Kid Rock directly, rather than jumping to a conclusion that was not researched? He appears to have signed a contract to represent a beer company that has Caitlyn Jenner as a spokesperson. That could have been the underlying motive behind the criticism of Anheuser-Busch and shooting the Bud Light cans, a form of guerilla marketing for a company that is seen as being more friendly to conservatives than Anheuser-Busch.
