IMHO it's a question whether that Was Trdat III or IV, definitely not I --Fpga 09:44, 26 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Well, I checked about 4 sources, 1 of them said III, 1 of them said IV, and 2 of them said I, so I decided to go with I. I don't know about the reliability of any of those sources, so hopefully someone who actually knows will come along and correct it one day. --Aramgutang 11:55, 26 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Date, please!

When was it built - that's what I want to know. It's absolutely essential information, and it's missing. Some information about stylistic and/or architectural would also be helpful!

Saint Gregory imprisoned for 13 or 15 years?

edit

According to the Coptics, who venerate Saint Gregory on the 15th of Koiak (falling on the 24th of december in 2009), it is said that he was imprisoned in 15 years, not 13. --Xact (talk) 13:36, 24 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Khor Virap is a monastery of the Armenian Apostolic Church, located on the Ararat Plain in Armenia, near the closed border with Turkey, and about 8 kilometres (5 mi) south of the city of Artashat, within the territory of ancient Artaxata. Shown here with Mount Ararat in the background, it is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Armenia. Its fame is attributed to the fact that Gregory the Illuminator, the religious leader who converted Armenia from paganism to Christianity in 301, was imprisoned in the location for fourteen years by King Tiridates III. A chapel was initially built in 642 by Nerses III the Builder as a mark of veneration for Saint Gregory. Over the centuries, the monastery was repeatedly rebuilt; the current buildings date from 1662.Photograph credit: Diego Delso
