Chart Positions edit

The positions for Kelly Clarkson's singles on the POP charts were inaccurate so I corrected them.

Top 40 Tracks (Pop 100 Airplay; Pop 100)

2002 A Moment Like This Top 40 Tracks 8
2003 Miss Independent Top 40 Tracks 1
2003 Low Top 40 Tracks 24
2004 The Trouble With Love Is Top 40 Tracks 36

As well, "A Moment Like This" peaked at #4 on the AC chart. Stop removing it.--The Knowledge 20:57, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

One Minute edit

Has not been announced as a SINGLE. It's just a track from the upcoming album.68.229.164.101 05:20, 23 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Separate articles edit

I think it should. Usually, when the discography section is taken off the main article, it's because it's too long. Kelly's discography isn't that long so it should be put back on the main article...

If you have a look at some music artists who have not been present in the industry for a significant amount of time, their discographies are often separated into an individual article. In addition, the discography could be responsible for violating the article size guideline. Therefore, the discography should remain here in this article. —Eternal Equinox | talk 23:08, 24 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Certifications edit

I have noticed in the singles table that there is a gold certification in Australia for 'Because Of You'. Almost all of Kelly's singles have had a gold or platinum certification here in Australia, so can I add all of these to that table??????

Country column edit

I added a Hot Country Songs column to this article, due to the fact that a.) "A Moment Like This" reached #58 on the country charts as an album cut, and b.) "Because of You" (the Reba version) is currently at #42 on the country charts. Given that the duet version of "Because of You" is a country-only release (although it may cross over to the Hot 100), I would appreciate if the Country column were left as is and not removed -- it would save on footnotes. "Because of You (remix)" edit

What is the point of having "Because of You" chart two years after it was released? It's redundant. It's the same song, same lyrics, same music, performed by the same artist, with the addition of an added vocal. There's no point in adding it to a trajectory if it doesn't surpass the success of the original song, however slightly altered it may be. Drastically different versions of the same song have charted as one track on Billboard in the past, there's no reason to have "Because of You" be any different just because it happens to have a country artist on it.

Also, it's utterly pointless to include the Country column for an artist that isn't even country, nor has and legitimate success on that chart.

It is not utterly pointless to include the column. Kelly's first song charted at #58 on the country charts (only as an album cut, however), and the Reba/Kelly version of Because of You is very quickly climbing the Country charts. So what if Kelly herself isn't a country artist? She's charted on Hot Country Songs twice, so obviously someone thinks she's country -- and furthermore, the country charts are no less a major industry chart than, say, the Billboard Hot 100. Therefore, I see no reason to remove the country column from her discography. Ten Pound Hammer(((Broken clamshellsOtter chirps))) 03:07, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
"so what?" Sweetheart, just because an artist charts two singles on one chart doesn't mean you put it on their trajectory. Why not add her positions on the Dance/Club Play, the Hot 100 Airplay chart, the Top 40 Mainstream, and the Adult Top 40? Kelly Clarkson is NOT a country artist and has no significant release on that format. I'm removing the column.
Please refrain from calling me "sweetheart" again. So what if Kelly isn't a country artist? The remix version of "Because of You" is, in my opinion, a significant release (albeit a duet with a major country artist). Significant or not, I see no reason to remove the Hot Country Songs charts -- that would be akin to removing the Pop 100 column from a country artist's chart listings (see Rodney Atkins as an example). Please quit removing the Country column. Ten Pound Hammer(((Broken clamshellsOtter chirps))) 16:11, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sweetheart, you're an idiot. "So what"? is not a viable excuse for why two irrelevant positions on an auxillary chart should appear in that artists' trajectory. Get over the fact that Kelly Clarkson is NOT a country artist. She does not sing or perform country music. She does not promote her music to a country market. There is no reason to include her two non-hit entries on the Hot Country Songs chart. Posting extraneous information is a violation of wikipedia.--TheKnowledge1814 18:31, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
How is this extraneous? It's perfectly valid info, and doesn't need to be removed. And Hot Country Songs is considered a major chart. I should also point out that rock artist Bob Seger charted two minor hits on the country charts as well; both of them are listed on his discography. Is that extraneous info? Not at all! Ten Pound Hammer(((Broken clamshellsOtter chirps))) 23:39, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it's still extraneous and Bob Segar's should be removed as well. And stop vandalizing Kelly Clarkson's trajectory. "A Moment Like This" charted at #4 on the Adult Contemporary chart, and "Miss Independent" peaked at #28. I can tell how uneducated you are because you keep adding two irrelevant positions on the Hot Country Songs chart, yet fail to know two positions on the AC chart. I SHOULD POINT OUT that if you want to contribute to an artist's chart trajectory, be accurate or don't give your unwanted input at all. What a fool.--The Knowledge 02:46, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I fixed the trajectory so her major entires on the Billboard charts are all present. Enjoy! --The Knowledge 05:33, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Really? Kelly has a #1 song (in fact, it's THE longest-charting #1) on the AC chart, which is mysteriously nowhere to be found. 76.100.185.254 (talk) 04:26, 22 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Consensus for Thankful and My December's RIAA certification edit

I keep noticing the same one or two people changing Thankful and My December's RIAA certification without citing a source. I am trying to find a consensus for the CDs' RIAA Certification. According to RIAA's website Thankful is certified 2xPlatinum and My December is certified 1xPlatinum. I cannot find anything through Google that says otherwise beside Wikipedia and fan message boards without any article/web page cited. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aspects (talkcontribs) 16:42, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced RIAA certifications and record sales edit

Please provide a source before changing any RIAA certification or changing record sales drastically. Thank you, Aspects 15:34, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

You cannot use the RIAA database as a source for anything other than 2xPlatinum for Thankful, 6xPlatinum for Breakaway, and 1xPlatinum for My December because that is what the database shows. If you want to change a RIAA certification you must provide a source other than the RIAA database. Aspects 04:33, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
according to billboard.com, My December has been certified gold and platinum. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.69.140.23 (talk) 06:04, 16 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Recent changes to tables edit

I am starting a discussion on the recent changes to the tables. The tables are fine the way they were and do not need to be changed because they currently fit the structure that other discography pages have used to become featured articles. If you feel they need to be changed please form a consensus here first before changing them since the edits have been contested per Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. Aspects (talk) 20:57, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

The only difference between my edits and the previous edits is the certification. If you don't like it, just change it back. I have removed a lot of unuseful stuff, about 3,700 KB. Please do not revert my edits anymore. Langdon (talk) 01:10, 24 January 2009 (UTC)i7114080Reply

Editing edit

Why are the stats on this page being changed every day? Somebody keeps erasing all the album figures and putting up the same facts that I don't think are correct. It's frustrating for those of us who would like to see Kelly's albums and singles correctly reflected. Plus, this person is not listing resources. Can't they be blocked? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.87.180.4 (talk) 23:45, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

It would be nice if someone with the proper clearance could update Kelly's UK sales of Stronger (album), which are now at 154,000. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.190.91.80 (talk) 17:00, 11 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bubbling Under chart edit

There is no 118 on a top 100 chart.. top 100 only goes to 100. the bubbling under is a seperate chart used as an extension, nonetheless, a seperate chart. What part of that don't people understand? If 118 belongs under top 100... it would be a top 118 chart, not a top 100 chart. Alankc (talk) 22:45, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

My December Sales edit

Why are people changing the sales for My December? The link attached to it clearly states that it has sold 2.5 million worldwide, NOT 1.5 million. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.192.197.122 (talk) 21:32, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Certifications for All I Ever Wanted Album and Singles? edit

Why aren't the album and singles not OFFICIALLY certified? What is taking so long? The album is close to Platinum, My Life is Double Platinum and the other 2 singles are Gold. Why is the RIAA dragging its heels? They used to certify things every few months but this is ridiculous! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.49.106.173 (talk) 20:37, 11 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

songs and albums aren't automatically certified. the record label has to submit them for certification then the song/album goes through an approval process. Alan - talk 23:27, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I get this but how is it that "Stronger" is already certified Gold and none of these singles and album are certified when they have sold more? Lame on the record label's part! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.74.165.36 (talk) 22:24, 31 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Where are Canadian chart positions of various Kelly's singles? edit

I noticed a few days ago that someone erased peaks of various Kelly's singles in Canada (Canadian Hot 100), including Miss Independent, Since U Been Gone (which peaked at #1 actually!), Behind These Hazel Eyes, Walk Away, Breakaway. I don't see any reason to do it. Also someone deleted chart positions of these songs from their own wikipages. Can someone fix it please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.160.61.11 (talk) 08:44, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

The Canadian Hot 100 chart wasn't created until June 16, 2007. From 1996 until 2007, the national industry singles chart for Canada is the Canadian Singles Chart, which is tracked by Nielsen SoundScan and was internationally published on the "Hits of the World" section on Billboard. I looked into the Allmusic and Billboard's archives from 2003-2007, the only singles by Kelly to appear on the chart were "Before Your Love"/"A Moment Like This", "Low", and "The Trouble with Love Is". Her other singles, "Miss Independent", "Since U Been Gone", "Behind These Hazel Eyes", "Walk Away", and "Breakaway", are nowhere to be found in the Canadian charts. Right now, there is no substantial proof that "Since U Been Gone" did reach number one in Canada (see the Canadian number one singles of 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007). Chihciboy (talk) 06:09, 25 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sorry if this came in too long, I was able to scan through the Nielsen/Canoe Jam archives and I was able to retrieve the chart peak positions of all of Breakaway singles on the Canadian Singles Chart. All of them charted in there, but "Since U Been Gone" only peaked at number 2, so did "Because of You". Chihciboy (talk) 06:04, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sources for album sales? edit

Can I ask what is / are the source(s) for the sales of My December, All I Ever Wanted, Stronger and Wrapped In Red in the US but platinum certifications in the case of My December and Wrapped In Red? Also what is the source for the sales of Wrapped In Red in the UK? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.91.51.153 (talk) 11:48, 10 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Here are the latest confirmed US sales for every Kelly Clarkson studio album (except for Wrapped in Red): Trust, Gary (November 10, 2013). "Ask Billboard: They Are Women, Hear Them 'Roar'". Billboard. Prometheus Global Media. Retrieved November 12, 2013.
  • To answer your question about Wrapped in Red and My December being platinum in the US, the RIAA certifies an album based on shipments, rather than sales. In this case, both albums managed to ship a million copies though they still haven't sold a million.
  • Also, I removed the worldwide sales for Breakaway since no official organization regularly tracks total sales, "worldwide sales" numbers are especially suspect and should not be added (per WP:DISCOGSTYLE). Chihciboy (talk) 14:21, 18 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Country chart inclusion edit

So I removed the Billboard Country Airplay column on the single releases for now. Primarily because Clarkson only had four songs to chart in it (and half of them already managed to enter a national chart), making it a minimal success. Another is based on the previous discussions in this page and the FLC re the inclusion of the Country charts. Also, per WP:DISCOGSTYLE, it is strongerly advised to include only the ten national charts that the artist had a relative success to, in this case, already includes the Hot 100. Chihciboy (talk) 08:45, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

For the main singles chart, I absolutely agree that only major national charts should be included and Clarkson has not had enough success in country music to warrant adding a country chart there. However, not every section needs to include the same list of charts and this may be a good place to consider ignoring all rules. Discographies often include genre-specific charts or component charts in their "as featured artist", "promotional singles", or "other charted songs" sections to better reflect the charting history of the songs in those categories (see Lorde discography, Taylor Swift discography, Paramore discography, Colbie Caillat discography, and Imagine Dragons discography for examples). Wouldn't it make more sense to include a chart that a song has actually charted on (in this case, Country Airplay for "PrizeFighter") rather than having an unused column? On that note, Holiday 100 and Adult Contemporary could also be added to promotional singles table for "I'll Be Home for Christmas". Songsteel (talk) 03:55, 4 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it would make more sense for it to be in Taylor Swift discography than Kelly Clarkson's. -- Joseph Prasad (talk) 03:59, 4 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

This is for my girls edit

The song was released yesterday to iTunes, can however edit this page on regular basis add this? Szaboci (talk) 06:12, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

it is a charity single. A charity single section should be added. Girls,” which was executive produced by AOL's inspirational women's website MAKERS.com, will benefit the White House's Let Girls Learn campaign and the estimated 62 million girls globally without access to education. All proceeds from U.S. iTunes purchases of the song will go to the Peace Corps Let Girls Learn Fund. ref: [1] [2] Szaboci (talk) 22:47, 28 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

It's already listed under "As a featured artist". Hzh (talk) 23:00, 28 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

other artists have a charity single section. Clarkson should have one too. It's not really a featured single anyway, it is an all female lead not a feature. Szaboci (talk) 23:06, 28 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

This is not how things work. You don't edit simply because other pages do it, and there is no reason why Kelly Clarkson should have one just because another artist has one (in fact most artists who have done charity singles don't have such a section). She can reasonably have a charity singles section if she makes many charity singles, otherwise having lots of small sections does not make a page look good. Also the Billboard source you gave says it features Kelly Clarkson (among others), are you saying that Billboard is wrong? Hzh (talk) 23:25, 28 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

I just raised a question. I intended no harm and since I don't edit Clarkson's page on a regular basis, I won't touch someone else's work without opening a section in talk. I still believe though that Wikipedia hasn't got a strict rulebook, so your "things don't work this way comment" was completely unnecessary in my view. Also whether a page looks good or not, is really not my concern. I don't see an issue however adding the song as a charity single if it listed a such by not one but plenty of sources. The song can stay wherever I don't care no more.

"A Moment Like This" & "Before Your Love" on "Thankful" edit

I noticed that the tracks “A Moment Like This” and “Before Your Love” are listed as “Non-album single”. However, I have the “Thankful” album and these two tracks appear on that album as tracks 11 and 12.

American Idol coronation singles are non-album singles since they are released well in advance in their first album and not for album sales. The singles were released as singles and although they appear on the album, they are non-album singles, just like every other American Idol coronation singles. In this example, the singles were released in September 2002 and the album was released in April 2003, seven months after the singles.Aspects (talk) 03:20, 13 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
