@GELongstreet: When I read the article, I was curious about the dates that he was promoted to different ranks. I checked your sources (which are terrific by the way) and was able to find that data. For example, Svoboda III lists Major: 1 Nov 1894 and Oberst-Lt: 1 May 1897. There is so little information about this man, who, after all, commanded armies, that I would like to see every possible bit of it included in the article.
