The article lists Hanke's date of death as June 8, 1945, but then goes on to state "...he was captured by either Czech or Polish partisans and executed sometime in May of 1945."
I haven't changed/deleted either reference, as I don't know which is correct. http://www.zobten.de/Hanke/Hanke.htm gives the date as June, but does not cite a source. Pat 07:54, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

- In his book To Lose a Battle, France 1940 author Alistair Horne reports in a footnote on p. 275 chapter 10 Through the Ardennes, section The Crossing:
- "He ended the war as Gauleiter of Silesia [sic] and conducted the last-ditch defence of Breslau. When the devastated city finally capitulated to the Russians, Hanke disappeared in a plane and has never been heard of since."
- I'm not disputing the information here as Horne's book was published in 1969 and more information may certainly have come out since then, especially given that so many are now interested in "the other side" and present their research on the internet. Just wanted to point out that there is indeed another version of his death in print.RRskaReb talk 00:18, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
