According to his article in German wikipedia he is stated to have been conscripted in the Red Army and stated to have died of starvation but his ESBL biography used in citation in this article states he was 'killed in prison camp'. There is also discrepancy over his death date, given as January 1942 in this article but Decemeber 1942 in the ESBL biography this article cites.
