POV & Tone Concerns

The article seems fairly factual to me. Are there any specific issues regarding POV or tone? Examples of improper use? I suggest that the tags be removed. Pedorro (talk) 03:36, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm doing POV tag cleanup. Whenever an POV tag is placed, it is necessary to also post a message in the discussion section stating clearly why it is thought the article does not comply with POV guidelines, and suggestions for how to improve it. This permits discussion and consensus among editors. This is a drive-by tag, which is discouraged in WP, and it shall be removed. Future tags should have discussion posted as to why the tag was placed, and how the topic might be improved. Better yet, edit the topic yourself with the improvements. This statement is not a judgement of content, it is only a cleanup of frivolously and/or arbitrarily placed tags. No discussion, no tag.Jjdon (talk) 19:28, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Remove cleanup tag?

I believe that the additional info, editing, and contributions over the last couple of months justify removal of the cleanup tag, and I will remove it on Monday 11/28 unless someone objects. Georgewilliamherbert 19:44, 24 November 2005 (UTC)

I don't see anything wrong with it, either, as a basically disinterested observer, having run across the page by happenstance. Anyway, I suggest the tag be removed as well. gohlkus (talk) 07:10, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Internet Radio claim

According to the Internet Radio article, KPIG would not be the first Internet radio station. That honor would be claimed by WXYC, Chapel Hill, NC, as per the following snip from the Internet radio article.

WXYC (89.3FM Chapel Hill, NC USA) was the first radio station to announce broadcasting on the Internet on November 7, 1994. WXYC used an FM radio connected to a system at SunSite, later known as Ibiblio, running CU-SeeMe. WXYC had begun test broadcasts and bandwidth testing as early as August, 1994. WREK (91.1FM, Atlanta, GA USA) also claims to have started streaming on November 7, using their own custom software called CyberRadio1, although the stream was not advertised until a later date.

The source material from the station's website appears to be the problem. Once I can verify the WXYC date, I will modify the article appropriately. KC9CQJ 21:28, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

WXYC appears to be the first FCC licensed station to stream their terrestrial signal. The first actual streaming broadcast was Carl Malamud's. KPIG's claim to be the first in the world is erroneous, either way, so I have fixed the wording appropriately. KC9CQJ 21:37, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Freedom, California

Isn't the station based in Freedom, not Watsonville? Or do they just say that because it sounds more interesting? --GentlemanGhost 19:58, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

I think they just say that to sound cool. Their station is across from Ramsey Park, on Main St, Watsonville. Freedom is just a zipcode nowdays anyway: it's all within the city limits of Watsonville.[\:75.7.58.246|75.7.58.246]] 20:04, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Their signal tower is actually located in Freedom, CA. The studios are in Watsonville.

Same for the other signals "Piedmont"/ San Francisco (tower in Piedmont), 94oink 9 Cayucos, CA (SLO) 96oink 7 Paradise, CA (Chico)

KPIG-AM no longer part of simulcast

Radio-info.com is reporting [1] that KPIG-AM has been LMA'ed to a group to broadcast programming targeted at the Mandarin Chinese community in San Francisco. Mapleton was seized by its creditors a few months ago - the parents of the man who runs Mapleton are making moves to generate more revenue.

This highlights why it is a really bad idea to merge simulcast partners into a single article unless they have no independent history. If the KPIG programming format is noteworthy, that should be an article by itself, and then the station articles link to the format.
